KeePass

Featured Replies

Recently I have had to start remembering numerous passwords for different customers, the latest customer being a major bank and just to get to where I need to be I need to RDP onto 4 Jumpboxes and then a Citrix Client.

Has anyone used KeePass before, if so please can you give me feedback?

thanks

I've been using it for a few years now and its saved me a few times. I sync it to my Dropbox account so the file is backed up to my phone, PC and tablet so I can get to my passwords anywhere. It will suggest some really difficult passwords if you want it to but obviously you would need your phone handy but they are so long that it would be a pain to have to type them in, unless you're entering it into your phone/tablet in which case there's a copy/paste option.

A friend of mine tells me his company uses it so I'm hoping its secure

I too use KeePass as we have soooo many passwords at work, which all change at different times.

Works well, I don't use the generate password option but more of a password storage tool.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

How you running it, Do you have the DB file stored centrally on a file server and point the Program too it or are you storing the DB file locally on your machine?

I point mine to Drop box. I've noticed lately though that for some reason it seems to be creating copies of my original database in a folder called "scratch" and something is not updating across all of my devices

Not actually thought of using Dropbox.. I suppose FTP could be used aswell which I will most likely use seen as I am paying for it! :)

I've been using it for a while now..  I recently suggested we use it at work and was told a firm "NO" because storing passwords in a central place is "insecure"..  Everyone should have 1 password (their network password) and everyone should keep it safe.

When I pointed out that people often keep their passwords on an excel spreadsheet or word document "secured" by a password (which is insecure) I was told people don't do this..

3 months later the same manager who dismissed my idea asked me to look into using this across the company..

What can I say..  Apart from - I was right  :notme:

I think you mean 'unsecure' :) 'insecure' is something else.

as for programs +143545643 for keepass

id use SFTP instead of FTP to move/access that database. adds another level of protection for the file.

Both my current place of work and my old one use Keepass. So many systems with their own usernames and passwords.

Nope. I mean insecure.. As in not sufficiently protected.

2.1Not sufficiently protected; easily broken into:

an insecure computer system
