Raising 99 Felicia for a Rally

Featured Replies

Good afternoon

I will be embarking on the 2014 Mongol Rally (driving to Mongolia from London via the Pamir Highway and back) in 1.3l 99 Skoda Felicia and due to the fact there will be 4 of us in this car with gear, spares and tools we want to raise the car and fit heavier duty suspension to deal with the extra weight.

I have read some previous threads of people wanting to do the same, and would like some help with what parts that can be fitted to the Felicia and do the job required.

From what I understand there are 2 options available to us, using suspension from a Favorit which will apparently give a 40mm lift. Alternatively Using rear suspension from a Felicia Estate, and front suspension from a Felicia diesel, which is meant to give 1 inch lift and stiffen the suspension. Also are the shock absorbers all different on these models or will I be able to use the current shocks already fitted?

One last question, and that is once the suspension has been raised will it cause the need for upgrading the anti-roll bars?

Would be good to hear some of your wisdom and any suggestions you may have.

Many Thanks

I was looking at doing the mongol rally last year when a member on here did it with a Mk1 Fabia. IMO its a great challenge and i wish you all the best with it.

I dont know much about the felicia, but i do think you may struggle to get many "lifting" kits for the suspension. But hopefully one of the chaps here can help you :)

There's a fella on here done the suspension lift before, can't think of his user name now though....

Thanks Teflon Tom, I read that topic, I believe the chaps user name was satchellm. I was hoping he would read this topic, Is there a way to contact other members directly?

When you get to 5 posts you can use the private message system.

Another question regarding timing chain (It is a chain rather than a belt. right?). Is there a way of recognising when a timing chain needs to be replaced without taking the cover off. Also what is the recommended life of a 1.3 Felicia timing chain before it needs replacing?

theres no specified change interval on a timing chain, my best advise would be to leave it well alone unless it's rattling or getting noisy

If you want to lift the front you can fit a spacer between the top Mount and the body

Thanks for the help,

Can the spacers be purchased on-line somewhere, or will they need to be made up?

you need to make them mate, simple enough job tho, just need a plate the same size as the strut top and drill the holes, I would say even some thick plastic would do it, the mounting studs just knock out so you can replace with longer bolts etc
