Anywhere I can buy a space saver spare wheel + tyre?

Featured Replies

Even more confused now; on the configurator it displays the option of space saver or full wheel. If you select space saver it says "This equipment isn't compatibile with your other choices so far".

Which isn't helpful - why display the option if it isn't applicable to the car you've picked?

Also when I picked up the car I said to the dealer that the wheel was wrong and he said he would get it changed for a space saver. Methinks he'll be getting a call today....

I cant say what the on line configurator says but in the brochure it list the following options.

Temporary space saver spare wheel (for 17" or 18" wheels)

Temporary steel spare wheel (for 16" wheels)

Sounds like yours is correct for an SE with 16s on.

As standard you get a can of foam and no spare.

Can anyone tell me if you get an electric pump when there is no spare wheel, as well as the foam? My Fabia GL2 came with a bottle of glue and a pump (and a message saying 'good luck'). I assume the foam is to plug the hole until you can get to a garage, so I'm hoping they give you a pump to get some air back in there!

That stuff is the invention of the devil and I would never have a car without a spare wheel (for Skoda to offer it as an option is fair enough if it keeps the cars in lower emissions categories).  But I believe the foam is meant to inflate the tyre enough to get you home - or to a tyre dealer were they will sell you a new tyre as thy will say that the foam renders the tyre unserviceable.

And from experience of being involved in the tyre trade, the rim will be deemed unserviceable as well, or you will have a significant charge for cleaning it up before a tyre can be fitted.

I hadn't thought about the rim. A dealer will charge silly money for a new rim, so think I may have to invest in a spare.

My experience is completely different - had a puncture in one of my RFTs on the BMW, managed to get home and called the lease company to arrange a replacement.  They sent out the AA to check the tyre, and the bloke put in some 'Slime' (the same stuff you can get in bike inner tubes)... when I got to Quick Fit the next day they simply took the tyre off and then rinsed the rim off - 'Slime' would appear to be water soluble to some degree.

Admittedly, I have no idea if they charges the lease company extra for cleaning it up or not as I wasn't paying... but it wasn't as though it was a major ball-ache or anything, or did any damage to the rim.

Hi all,

My cars been in citygate for work, and asked them to sort out the issue with a 16" steel wheel that wouldn't fit which they supplied.

I know Farsider has had joys with Willis Skoda in getting a option sorted after going to Skoda CEO.

Citygate have advised a technical briefing has gone out to dealers this morning, picking car up later to sort out them supplying a wheel that wouldn't fit and costs etc

Regards

Brian
