New BMW M4

Popped in to my local dealer today for the launch of the new M3/M4:

What a beast! Sales guy fired it up inside the showroom for me - sounds awesome.

This one is a snip at £62k on the road.....

Bit too pricey for me really but hey it's good to dream!

Is this part on wikipedia a windup?

Although controversial, the M4 will feature Active Sound. A live amplification of the engine's natural sound will be inducted into the passenger cabin via the speakers.

I'm surprised an engine like that would benefit from such a feature unless it's particularly well insulated?

John

Is it really any better than an octy vrs in the real world though?

Or/and a particularly quiet exhaust system.

Er yes

Lol no comparison.

My 14 yr old m5 is better built and better drive and ride and quieter than my mk1 vrs ever was even when it was new when I first got it.

And thats comparing a new car to a 14 year old one.

Think bmw have tainted the m3 though as the m3 has a heritage of being a 3 door mostly beast. Now the m4 is takimg that place.. its a bit wierd now as its basically what the m3 should be

If that makes sense?

No windup, it does have a sound generator. So does the current generation M5 and the M135i. They are so well insulated from road noise etc that it's needed to get more engine note into the cabin! Not ideal at all but it's very cleverly done so you can't actually tell the difference to be fair.

Exhaust sounds like a beast though.

I know which I'd rather have.....but I'll have to stick with the vRS.

NIce, but with the congested roads we have  you can do the same journey and speed and time as a CitiGo and for a lot less Wonga

JUst my thoughts

You mentioned about getting some new wheels last weekend but I doubt you'd fit in a CitiGo! ;-)

Actually John you'd be suprised just how big they are inside, it's like the Tardis. If I'm driving you could sit behind me in the rear and  not be squashed in. If I'm off the Vrs sits parked up and I drive the Citigo about.

Have a ride in one, you will be surprised.............

Er yes

+100%

Mate took delivery of his M4 on friday, loves it !!

Unless you live somewhere with no congestion, or don't use the car to commute.

And why buy a citigo when a 15 year old 106 will run on chip fat and cost a couple of hundred to buy...

Does that include the chip fat?

Does that include the chip fat?

That's the price for the chip fat.

The Pug comes free to save paying the scrap man to take it away!

Oops wrong thread...

Sorry, but thats simply not true IMO.

Iv followed powerful cars making good progress (and been in a fair few) when iv been on the bike. You can really get so much further with a little planning and a nice amount of power.

With Small cars like the Citigo, theyre fine for keeping up with a row of traffic, but not much use for shooting past a row of cars at short notice (except Bossfoxs haha).
