Estate vs Hatch

Featured Replies

Hi guys and gals. I'm going to be trading in my Octavia for a Superb in the near future, but as I can't get to a dealer until next week tro have a proper look around, I wanted to ask a few questions here so I had some ammunition when I go.

1. which rear seats lay flatter, the Hatch or the Estate? I've seen a few videos where it appears (much like in the Octavia) that you have to extend the headrests to their fullest to get the seats close to being flat and there is a significant lip at the base of the seats which prevents a completely flat base.

2. Does the Columbus sat nav with DAB have bluetooth and if not, how much is the interface to connect an iphone?

3. is the variable floor on the Estate standard on either the L&K or the Elegance?

Also, i'm finding it next to impossible to locate a used Estate in Elegance or L&K, that's either Brown or Silver with ivory interior and a panoramic roof. The black onyx are a dime a dozen and there are hardly any on autotrader or the Skoda site which have the panoramic roof. Are they just as rare as hens teeth?

Thanks folks

Well I can answer the 2nd question for you, yes it does have Bluetooth as standard, although I have no idea if it will work with an iPhone. Some folks on here have had  mixed results, I suppose it all depends on the respective ages of the Columbus and the phone. May be an iPhone user may be provide more help with the specifics of it.

My iPhone 3GS (!) links up to make and receive phone calls and to play music from the phone via Bluetooth.

Floor not standard on Elegance at least.

The answer for 1. will be I think for sure, in the estate rear seats are flater down then in the hatch (I figure this out recently while transporting spare rear bumper for it). I have a hatch Superb (wife is driving it) and now I am thinking of that would be better for us that we have buy better a estste version.

But in April there where no even one used estste available for fair price, just hatch. :angry:Now they are available, and the prices are very very atractive (used estste you can find here for less then we have paid in April for used hatch).:)

Even and just maybe will try to sell a Octavia vRS to try to find and buy a Superb estate, since I need extra space in car and transport things with it (+3 kids soon). (big cars are not problem for me)

Better that you try in live both version at dealer site and then decide. Will it be ergonomy and look (hatc) or space and practicle estste. Its just yours decision...;)

Some of us think the estate has the better looks............... :)

Bluetooth works fine with my iPhone 5. No issues at all and works better than my old Samsung. Streaming music not a problem either

Answering 1: You dont have to extend the headrests, you need to remove them. The bottom of the back seat folds forward first then you fold the back down (or at least you do on my 2013 estate). This makes the back seat completely flat. Although mine does not have the variable boot floor so there is a step much like there was in my previous octavia hatch.

The estates do seem rare on the used market, I guess due to people keeping hold of such a great car. I got mine at 9 months old with 5k on the clock before even the dealer had seen it. Beware though as there have been quite a few ex hire cars appearing. Im sure they are fine but id want it checked thoroughly.

There is a view that hire cars are very good buys - the different driving styles and the regular maintenance are good for the vehicle.

That's one argument alright although I'd be more concerned about covered up repairs and signs of welding etc on panels. I've owned one ex hire car ( not a Skoda )which turned out to have been badly rear ended with extensive repairs which were initially denied by the dealer.

As they say the fastest car in the world is a hire car and for good reason in some cases!

With an auto box I'm not convinced that different driving styles can do much harm, short of a "style" that involves hitting other solid objects.

Did you mean Hire cars or rather Lease cars?

Lease cars, as you say, tend to have high mileage, but these are frequently motorway use and fully serviced.

Hire cars are definitely "drive it like you stole it" material

My last 2 Superbs were / are both ex-Lease cars and were largely trouble free, except usual service replacement (and the current one came with a full Fleet Lease print-out of everything that had been spent on it, including tyres, brake pads, repair / replacement of battery by RAC and so on.

Sorry, meant the older one.

I agree the pre FL shares a certain similarity with the older Megane, in fact my last Superb was mistaken for a Megane more than once. Wasn't impressed!

Bit off topic. But my mate had a clutchless (manual gearbox) one, utter ridiculous to try and drive!!

I actually meant hire cars. My view is one supported by "Honest John" in the Telegraph. :)

no need to remove the headrestraints on the estate, just push them down to the limit and they fit behind the upturned bottom seat.
