Just picked up my first Skoda this week. Octavia Elegance 2002 with only 61,000 miles, Automatic 2.0 litre. Lovely blue colour

Going in for a full service on Thursday with probably a cambelt change.

 

Such a nice ride. Pulls really nicely even though its an auto. Super comfortable and amazingly huge boot. Great for family trips.

 

My father has a VRS and we both found this one and picked it up straight away for 1500 pounds! Few knocks here and there but to be expected at this price and age.

 

Got the orange warning light (Electronic system) on so hoping its just something minor. The O2 sensor was changed a few months ago so maybe related with that.

Full service history and regular oil changes etc.

 

Eager to see what our local Skoda mechanic finds this week. Hope not to spend more than 3-400 quid on belts/tensioners and service etc. 

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks! Yes so far so good. Very neat and tidy car. Came with the 2 keys, Haynes manual and black Skoda service pack with all the manuals inside.

 

Wife loves it. So roomy in the passenger seats. All controls feel solid, wipers/indicators etc

 

Fingers crossed for the full service.

After that I want to get to know the car better mechanically to be able to service some things myself. Oil filter looks accessible.

What are the recommended spark plugs and oil? (from the service records they have been putting in Castrol Magnatec either 10w40 or 5w30. I would imagine 10w40 would be fine. Surprised it hasn't been serviced with synthetic.

It should say in the owners manual what spec oil to use -it'll be in the format of vw 507.00 etc. Quantum is VAG's own make which I use in SWMBO's diesel Seat, but I use Castrol edge in mine but anything that meets the correct spec should be fine. Regular oil and filter changes are probably more important than which make TBH. Glad wifey likes it... you're onto a winner there!

Where can I get hold of the plastic inner wheel arch part? Front left wheel inner trim. The black plastic part that stops all the water wetting the chassis/horn etc from the front wheel.
