Air con blowing hot air out of one side

Featured Replies

Anyone experienced this problem with the climatron system in an Elegance?

In the morning (when cool - say 10c) the air con appears to work OK

In the afternoon (when warm - say 18c) the two drivers side vents pump out hot air & the passenger side works OK.

No amount of fiddling with the temp control will get it to blow cold.

I've tried switching it off & on and setting it to min & max.

Even with the system switched off it blows very hot - so I have to close the vents.

I'll book it into the dealer soon but just wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

Stuck temperature regulating flap for the drivers side is the most likely culprit. Either the flap is physically stuck or the actuator is shot.

I've had the same problem two or three times now, but on the passenger side, so SWMBO gets cooked and not me!

It only happened to me in colder weather when I'd used the car for short journeys for a while, then on the first longer trip it seemed to get stuck on maximum heat.  After a break with the engine off, it seemed to reset itself and work normally.  As it's a lot of hassle to go back to the dealer, I'll report it when it goes for its first service in August.

I've also noticed that the aircon is cold when the outside temperature is not very high.  For instance, we were on a journey a couple of weeks ago with an outside temperature of 17/18C, but the car was very cold inside unless the temperature was set to 23C or above.  I don't know if this is linked to the same problem?

The climate control system in the Superb is one of the worst I've had. After reading the manual, you are supposed to operate it with all the vents open and pointing upwards in Auto. This way it works a lot better, but is still not the best I have used.

I'd recommend trying this and see how you get on.

For issues like the OP with part of the car blowing a constant temp, this tends to be blend motor issues.

cheers, Steve

You could try a flap recalibration. Hold down "AC" and "face vent" button until lights start flashing. Each flap servo will go through it's full motion and reset its endpoints. Might help.

Thanks for the replies - I've given the 'flap calibration' a go & we'll see if that fixes it.

How long should the 'flap calibration' take as mine went on for minutes & I stopped it in the end by switching off the ignition.

When I did mine it lasted a minute or so. Perhaps it failed to complete because one of the flaps is buggered. Off to the dealer I think.

The flap calibration seemed to do the trick for a while - then it would started blowing hot again - then I'd do the flap recalibration again - then it would work for a while.....

So off to the dealers before the warranty runs out!

Try a battery disconnect, this should hard reset everything.

Don't bother as it will be a waste of time, as per your post into the dealer as it's obviously a blend motor sticking.

So ten minutes to potentialy save an £80 diagnostic fee should simply be ignored.

I asked you NOT to respond to me anymore so we can stay away from each other, was that too hard to do?
