Alloy spare wheel for Yeti Outdoor

Featured Replies

Any ideas  what stock item may fit please or are we stuck with the steel spare.?

Without being negative or answering a Q with a Q but would it not be correct, if wanting an alloy, to have the same style & make that is already on the car.

It would be if the spare were the same size as the one already on the car. Not sure about the Outdoor, but on the original Yeti, the spare is not the same size (it's narrower)

I believe that the stock steel spare is narrower (195) than the stock 225 section tyres most Yetis come with.

You can put a full size alloy and tyre in there, but I think it'll raise the boot floor and cause it to float around a bit, due to it being around 3cm thicker.

Why, if its a different style you would not keep it on the vehicle. The idea of the steel spare is to get the damaged wheel/tyre sorted quickly and back on the vehicle. Also if the alloy is wider then I repeat BF's post.

Seems bizarre really, where are you supposed to put the original tyre if it is biger than the space saver and the car is full of luggage and you have a puncture?

Never really got the logic apart from the space saver being cheaper to make than the full size wheel

I had an Audi Coupe years ago with a space saver. The full size wheel would not easily go into the boot when I had a puncture and the boot was empty at the time!

It's because they don't expect you to use it very often, so having the boot trim floating around (on average over all users) once every five years is fine.

BossFox is correct,

The boot floor is designed with an extra folding point (Hinge) so it will fit the full size wheel and the boot floor rests level but 30mm higher.

I was thinking about the weight saving of having a lighter wheel the same size as space saver. Tyre on Outdoor is 225x50x17 and space saver is 195x60x16.  Possibility for a wheel with same dimensions as the space saver from within the VAG range any ideas?

The difference in the weight is going to be marginal.

Don't worry about it.

Saving 2 or 3 kg on a 1,400kg+ car isn't something I'd personally worry about unless you are racing it.

The stock Skoda alloys are durable and hence rather heavy already.  My Annapurnas were a smidge under 13kg each!!!

I think you'll find the steel space saver is actually lighter than a stock alloy and not far off any other VAG alloy that's rated to support the Yeti's weight.

In short, as Graham said above...

How about keeping a large bin liner in the boot to put the punctured alloy wheel in to complete the journey?

No. that's just too easy...

A steel wheel of the same size will probably be lighter than an alloy one....
