July Meet

Quite a lot of car events/shows on this month including svag national day, would people prefer going to something like that or a midweek meet somewhere?

Kelpies opened just off the M9 near Falkirk. Plenty of parking, plus it's free. Nice day out if you fancy, and would be able to get plenty of cars in. Saves those who don't want to pay money for entry to an event, although I will personally be at the Scottish Car Show anyway. Just a thought - and not just because the Kelpies are conveniently close to where I am.  :p

If Kenny or someone else can tell me how to upload the photos I have a few from SVAG today as well, not sure if I spoke to Kenny or not as haven't met anyone from the forum before. I spoke to a couple of owners, one with a 2011 fabia vrs parked on the hill close to ours and to the lad with the white octavia vrs down in the field.

Don't know if its the norm or not but was a bit disappointed to hear that the top ten cars there couldn't include a Seat or a Skoda. Basically if you didn't have a Golf you were up against it, bearing in mind my observation is made from the perspective of a newcomer to the show scene.

Really liked the limited edition vrs, edition number 492 if remember correctly, and the green octavia vrs as pictured. That one looks like an evil big brother to our fabia.

All in all really enjoyed the afternoon at the show, decided to go at the last minute after finishing work this morning as I live close to the venue.

Well done to the Skoda lads who attended, the vehicles were a credit to you. And thanks for the photos Kenny.

Svag was held in Chatelherault Country Park near Hamilton, I enjoyed it and more regular show goers reckoned there was a good turn out.

Really liked the Limited Edition as well, wonder who has No1 or numbers like 111, 222, 333 and so on.

I use the tapatalk app to upload pics if that's any use to you?

Thanks Kenny, I'll need to ask my son what this tapatalk is as I have no clue. Which car was yours? There weren't a big number of Skoda's there but those that were, were I thought, well presented.

I also meant to say I found it very worthwhile and informative talking to so many owners of the various models in the group, and those with a keen eye for detailing, tuning, and the different styles of doing exactly that. Was speaking to a young lad who had a mk5 Golf gti complete with roof rack that looked like a normal everyday Golf. Turns out it had been subjected to a few "adaptations" lol. Eye watering stuff, 336 bhp from a Golf. Then spoke to one of the guys with a Golf R, he's had APR stage 1 and 2 done, great looking car as well.

Strange thing was, when we parked the Vrs behind him he moved his car.

I don't think I managed to get to speak to you which is a shame, did see the car with the bonnet up over near the Revo end of the field, liked it. You must have quite close to the RS5?

Yeah it was in the row in front of me, thought there might have been an award for best other vag.

Aye me too to be honest, pretty disappointed to find that awards could be given to best non vag (the two RS turbo escorts) but that little recognition was afforded to the other brands in the VAG.

I actually have a photo of yours under the bonnet so to speak, didn't realise last night. Will try to upload somehow.

Thanks for that, not that I'm biased towards vags but it was a surprise to see other makes rolling on to the show field! I thought they had maybe got lost on the way to SCS! Even the Audi's didn't get a look in at the awards ceremony which was a surprise.

As I said elsewhere I'm a relative newcomer to the show scene so was surprised to see other makes on the field for me, including a very nice Noble M15 and Toyota Supra. Not to mention the RS Turbo Escorts.

Nice as they were though, this was a VAG show and quite frankly there were nicer VAG group cars sitting on the bankings parked up that weren't even in the show. On the field however, there was a cracker of an early Audi Quattro in red that never got quoted, as well as the RS5, not to mention some really smart Skoda's. None of them quoted. Of the top ten, 8 were Golf's, one was a Bora and the other was a Polo. No mention of a stunning Octavia Vrs in white, or another Octavia Vrs in metallic green, or indeed any of the Fabia's in attendance.

Suppose I'll get used to it over time but seemed strange to me. By the way, I actually really enjoyed the day and the show, I'm just being hyper critical maybe in noticing how the awards went.
