Can you aftermarket / dealer fit the Black pack?

Featured Replies

Don't yet own a Oct yet but looking at a VRS estate as next company car - looking at the build times people have here, the timing with swapping out old car may mean having to opt for an ex-demo/forecourt/nearly new car (if there are any around?).

I'm still learning exactly what options i'd like but obviously if its a pre-built car i would have to plump for whatever it has on it.

I'd being doing potentially 25-30k miles per year, so things that are critical are satnav and cruise control (the latter being standard as of May i gather but obviously an older demo may not have it). I'm aware from another thread here that cruise control can now be added by dealers, and i assume swapping to a satnav system is feasible also if its not on there.

The other thing i think i'd like is the black design pack - but what actually does this consist of? Brochure says its black radiator surround, black wing mirrors, and gloss black roof rails.

Assuming that the chrome option hasn't been selected as an option, then does a 'standard' VRS have gloss black roof rails anyway? And thus to make car black pack, can the black wing mirrors and radiator grill surround not be swapped over later or by the dealer anyway (or worse case heath robinson style painted black by a bodyshop)? Or am i missing something fundemental?

No - it's currently not possible to upgrade / change the infotainment unit for another one after it has left the factory.

As for the black pack - I guess if the parts can be ordered separately then it could be retrofitted.  The roof rails on an estate could be problematic, and the grille surround may also require more than just the surround (i.e. a whole new grille).

Thanks :-)

No satnav upgrade - blimey, I'm used to 'old school' double din units and iso connectors (and scotch blocks!) etc but gather this is new world! Important stuff for me to know as could be deal breaker.

What finish / colour are standard roof rails on estate - i thought they were black but are they not gloss?

As standard on a vrs you get chrome grill, black but not gloss roof rails and obviously colour coded mirrors.

The black pack parts are a metallic black, I swapped my chrome grill for a black pack one when I got the car as I wasn't fussed about the rest of the parts and it was only £43 If I recall. Had to take the front bumper off to change it though.

I'm guessing you can order the other parts separately and the mirror covers would be an easy swap but the roof rails might need the headlining removing to gain access to the mounting bolts?

The black pack parts are a metallic black,

Except the combi roof rails which are piano black.

For Elegance I couldn't order black pack so I had the dealer order the parts one by one and replace them for me. Article numbers:

Black mirror housing: 5E0072530B

Black grill frame: 5E0853761AF9R

I haven't replaced the roof rails as it was black already - the default roof rail is not glossy but black, I could live with that.

The above was ~130 EUR altogether fitted and I got back the color coded mirror housing and the silver grill frame in a box.

My mistake. I'm still tempted to get black mirror covers, how much are they from Skoda?

Thanks all, really useful to know - looks like most important option to get right on any pre-built car for me would be the satnav, and cruise and main parts of black pack can be sorted later - might just get me a vrs rather than something else :-)
