What do I need to get to grips with Felicia electrics?

Featured Replies

Now that I am rather reluctantly obliged to 'downgrade' fom the Favorit to the Felicia series, I'm a bit dismayed by the new 'technology' with which I shall be forced to grapple in so doing .... especially all this vag-com stuff!

I am in need of a decent manual (I already have, of course, the H joke book) and, most particularly, proper wiring diagrams / 'current flow diagrams' .... but I have not yet found a link which works, for me.

Just what do I need to get set up, to play happily with the ECU? I see that there are various offerings of uncertain provenance out there on t'internet, and I shall be very grateful if those who have been here before me can point me in the right direction.

I'm suffering from square eyeballs, after untold hours of searching ... I found that our esteemed friends in Germany had made available a 'proper' wiring diagram for the Favorit - oh, how I wish I had known of it years ago! - but, grrrr! I've lost the link already (or I'd be posting it now). There seemed to be no equivalent on that site (German Skoda forum) for the Felicia (I'm talking about the good old rats-nest format of yesteryear which showed ALL the wiring on one diagram) - does anyone know if such a boon exists anywhere?

I've been struggling all day to try to figure out which code reader I should buy for my needs and, after getting nowhere, I've ordered a very cheapo unit (MS309) on the basis that if it turns out to be inappropriate at least I haven't lost much. Unless someone jumps in beforehand to tell me the error of my ways, I'll report back to say how well it works ... or doesn't.

(I just can't afford $400 for the pukka Ross cross-platform stuff, and I kicked windoze software into touch 10 years ago ... much to my benefit, and I shall never go back there).

you bought an OBD II scanner for an OBD I car (Felicia)... :wall:

Felicia wiring on one sheet... that doesn't exist.

all Skoda Felicia up to 2001 factory wiring diagrams in English - you can get them if you ask a fellow UK citizen in private.

Hoo, thanks dohnjoe .... you are right of course, the MS309 doesn't talk to the Felicia ... I live and learn.

Anyone want a nice new OBD II scanner, now up for grabs?

The (possibly) good news for me is that Gendan has assured me that their VAGVG2 scanner has no problem with the pre-OBD II VAG protocols, and will play nicely with my Felicias ... I am eagerly awaiting one ... we'll see.

TeflonTom,last year you mentioned that you had some English-language wiring diagrams, and threatened that you might get round to uploading them .... any chance?

Hello, sorry it's copyrighted data, pm me

Right, I now have a handheld code reader which will talk with my Felicias (to some extent, at least) ... so that's progress ... (I think?).

I share TeflonTom's concern over copyright issues (not least because, years ago, I was right royally ripped off in relation to my own 'intellectual property' by the big guys). Some musings on copyright:

- the definitive UK legislation now appears to be the 1988 Copyright Patents and Designs Act (as amended, as usual). It seems to me to be an arcane rats-nest, (read, a lawyers' delight), which serves the interests of lawyers vastly better than those of the little guys who might have hoped for a spot of protection. Nonetheless, Parliament clearly intended to offer quite generous exceptions to copyright in relation to activities such as private study, research, and education, maintaining or extending the personal use concession of earlier legislation.

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/48/part/I/chapter/III

- that said, unfortunately the law does continue to march on the side of the 'big battalions' (read, deep pockets) so any likely infringement of copyright has to be a no-no on this forum.

- interestingly it seems that a wiring diagram would be regarded by the Act as a (graphic) 'artistic work' ....

- there is NO copyright on KNOWLEDGE or INFORMATION (only on specific works used as a means of transmission of such).

All this has led me to dream of a project - putting all the Felicia wiring on one diagram (like the Favorit one mentioned in an earlier post) - thus creating an entirely new 'artistic work' (maybe, even licensed for copyright purposes under the GPL system now widely used for open-source software) ... for the greater benefit of mankind (and Felicia owners).

My dream runs to using long-established CAD techniques `- 'layering' - in order to build the composite diagram, which would enable the user swiftly to look at a specific system only, by suppressing 'layers' not of immediate interest, whilst maintaining the sense of the overall wiring loom configuration. Given Skoda's (general) avoidance of bicolour wiring insulation, colour presentation might also be on ...

Anyone interested?
