Fabia TCS fault help please

Recommended Posts

Hi All

On to my third Skoda now as the other half just picked up a Fabia 1.6tdi elegance 2011 , only got a mile down the road and the tcs kicked in and slowed the car down, we drove a little further and it did it again , turn the tcs off and the car drives fine. We have taken it back and they put it on the computer but it gave no fault code. We have left it with them as obviously want it sorting but would like any advice so we have some idea of what it may be.

The car has done around 20,000 and looks to have just had new tyres and brakes, there is also a weird low noise beep or clinking sound which gets faster when the car travels faster which i have never head before !

thank you

Andy

Have you checked the tyre sizes are correct for the car, and both the same?

The tyre are all brand new generals, i checked the sizes and all the same but do not know if they are correct for the car, its now with the dealer.

The VW dealer i left it with rang to say they cant find the problem and need to pass it to a Skoda specialist !

As far as I know the alloys are 16" comet pattern

Should be a 205 45 r16 on that i think mate

Cheers , cant check now but will take a look if and when it comes back ! Would it cause that issue if they were not the right size as in the 205 45 part ?

I think its just if one tyre is a different size to the other on that axle tbf.

My dad had a passat and the tyre fitters put a slightly incorrect size on. Nobody noticed, until the traction control kept cutting in (because one wheels going faster than the other).

The tyres were all identical size , but that i suppose doesnt discount the possibility that one of them is slightly different or defective, do you think the tolerances would be that tight that it could cause that issue ? God only knows how they can test that out !

If you are certain that the tyres sizes are identical,  have you checked the tyres are at the same pressures.

It is doubtful that even a 15 psi difference between front tyres would have the TC cutting power but you had best check.

Hi All

Update - Skoda garage now have the car and no fault codes have been returned and they have not narrowed down the problem ( do not know what they have tried though ), they are presuming it is the engine control module which is faulty and because it is an elegance is specialist part which will cost a fair bit and MAY not be the problem. Any thoughts on wether this could be the case ? If the the module was faulty surely it would send back a return code ?

cheers

Andy

A sad day but we have had to let the fabia go , they have not been able to fix it and to be honest we have lost all trust in the dealer so walking away is the only option. :(

Oh well, don't blame you.

Was the car just off the warranty? Did you buy from independent or Main dealer? Was the noise present when you were doing test drives?

Another example of monkeys with diagnostic machine - computer says NO gov, nothing we can do!

Are there any real mechanics left in this country or more to the point why Main Dealer garages stopped employing them.

Fault finding is not about buying new parts and replacing them hoping that maybe one of them will sort the problem put without having a clue what is going on

Car was purchased from Lookers Teesside, salesman took my partner out for a test drive and the car slowed down on her - he then turned off the TCS system and told her it was no problem , she did not know any better. Hence he was aware of the fault and continued with the sale. I was unaware of this till we bought the car and five mins down the road it cut in - obvious straight away it was a fault. Lookers have basically just said they cant find a fault and pushed us into a refund as they cannot be bothered. Hence no trust in the dealer and its dubious tactics. The car was just out of warantee yes, strangely it also had four brand new tyres , the dealer said the previous owner had winters on so they changed them , when i suggest they check the tyres / wheels as it could be that with the tcs issue they hadnt done it and probably still havent.

They sent the car to a Skoda garage as their Lookers ( VW ) mechanics did not know enough about Skodas !!

Hopefully we can find another Fabia somewhere as it has the package we want and we like skodas :)

cheers

Andrew

You did well taking the money and running from them, a disgrace and not Car Salesmen! That thing they did when your partner was doing a test drive was simply applaling and you need to alert trading standards about it - it bears all the hallmarks of fraud

VW mechniac did not know enough about Skodas?!? Is that a joke?

I think you are spot on, they cannot be bothered with anything really - they are proper stealers and should be avoided at all costs.

If you feel so inclined you might put up car details up here so other potential buyers are aware.

Also, head to dealers section and describe your experiences for the same reasons.

Try buying from main dealers, they usually have good offers, warranty and if there is a problem more comeback with them, but even among them you might find stealers unfortunately...

Wow, didn't realise all the more reasons to avoid them like a bad rash!

Did you write to their managing director describing all of the above? Maybe just this one salesman is a bad apple which needs to gotten rid of?

Copy to VW head office and send using First Class Recorded.
