Just had an Octavia 3 1.2 in Dublin. Pleasantly surprised. Just had a golf with the same motor and was shocked...

By the inaccuracy of the speedo?

That pic is a Mk7 Golf dash isnt it.....yes the 1.2 TSi is a good little motor, without doubt worlds better than the NA 1.6 motors cars of this size used to have at entry level, mote torque and a wider spread of it the main reason.

Just wondering I had 2013 1.2 tsi mkIII Octavia ...but upgraded to a new 2014 Octavia 1.2tsi Elegance...my query is I'm not the biggest engine head but it deffo looks a different engine and I've noticed it has some serious oomph...I thought I was just in new car owner syndrome and it was my imagination...but my pop drives it too and he is a patrol head and he had a look at the engine and drove it and on both countsv he agreed....just was wondering does anyone know anything or is it just our combined imagination....2013 july Mk 3 1.2 tsi ambition vs 2014 July mk3 1.2 tsi mk3....anyway I'm a happy camper.:)

Above post should have noted 2014 1.2tsi is an Elegance not that it matters to the bit of oomph/engine query that I'm really interested in.

Silly question perhaps but are you sure the new one isnt a 1.4 TSi?

Well no badging on the new one save for model and brand..and car bill from skoda which was paid yesterday was for a 1.2 tsi..??

I wish I had paid more attention to other model but as I said My Dad looked at engine /bay and said it looked different..again I've no idea..but I notice the turbo a lot more in it and it does have 17" alloys instead of the other 16" alloys with brand new michellins so don't know if that would make a whole lot of difference ,just thought they may have tweaked the previous tsi engines and someone may have known thanks for reply pipsyp.

It wouldn't be the first time an O3 has been delivered with the wrong engine :D

That would be a wee bonus hahaha...is there any numbers /Vin or engine no.that differ from 1.2 /1.4.....in other words is there a simple enough way to check engine size...sorry for interrupting Brazil v Columbia game..it would be nice to have got the bigger size unexpectedly but knowing my luck I'm just in fantasy land but hey mistakes do happen and delivery was rushed through so live in hope:)

The 1.2 TSI is a very common engine, on campaign Golfs and atleast on Polo/Fabia/Rapid platform.

Worked well with DSG-7 in Polo atleast. :)

If it's a UK Elegance it should have the 1.4TSI.  I was going to have the 1.2 but by the time I added the extras it made more sense to go to the Elegance spec and the 1.4TSI.

In a place where such speeds are deemed legal. It couldn't pull the skin off 5 minute old custard but with judicious use of the right pedal and slick gear changes it could hold it's own
