Infra-red photography

Featured Replies

I converted my first SLR to this on Friday. Not really used it yet, but looks like it should give some interesting results.

Anyone else got one?

(These are all straight from the camera, no editing)

Camera is a D40x I got for free with the standard 18-55mm lens off my D3100.

It's such a laggy thing to use compared to either the D3100, or my D600.

Nice!

How did you convert it?
I often thought about buying an old D60 and doing this.

My uncle in Ireland, really loves IR film work. I quite like the black and white effects it produces.

Something good about a paper print for that way of photographing.

Why are yours blue, only ask as I'm used to the bleached whites.

Stripped it down and replaced the internal filter across the sensor. I found it pretty easy. Would do another - its not put me off like some jobs do.

Mines blue as I went for the "super colour" knowing that I could convert it to black and white again , or have some weird coloured shots, whereas a b&w would have been more restrictive, although it might have offered a stronger effect.

Got any links to parts and a guide?

would be interested in this.

I've tried them with a filter but I could never get it to edit properly afterward. Even someone who was awesome at it couldn't get them right. Must be a rubbish filter. Never fancied converting, though could convert my D80 I suppose. I'd expect perfect results for butchering my camera though lol!
