wiper question - teardrop wipe?

Featured Replies

The manual says that specialist dealers can enable a function where the wipers wipe again about 5 seconds after the washer is used. Is this teardrop wipe?

Think this is another reason for me to get a VCDS

Yup. That's the tear wipe function.

Andyvee tried to get this going on mine but it would only work on the rear wiper unfortunately....

Ahh right, thanks.  Hope someone can get it working on the front, it always needs another wipe to get the last dribbles of fluid.

I've always found that

I've never been able to enable front teardrop wipe on a car with a rain sensor and auto wipers. Looks like the rain sensor overrides it.

In the Wiper is also a ECU included and it is able to code as a slave ECU. But no one knows the coding.

Slave [1] :5E1955119 WWS371 140517 Coding: 065DDD

Yep, I won't touch the wiper module slave until someone knows what the coding is. If you have auto wipers you don't need it really, but it is useful to enable it on the rear wiper.

I miss this as my Passat had this. Clears the dribbles after a windscreen wash

Well you kind of do need it as the rain sensor at the top of the screen doesnt register the dribbles of fluid slowly streaming up the screen.... So if someone cracks his to get this to work I'll be happy.   The manual doesn't seem to suggest it is only possible if you don't have auto wipers so hopefully it is possible.

It was possible on my Mk2 vRS and my two FL vRS's and was disabled by the dealer on my mk 3 vRS.

The reason I had it disabled was that I found it a bit of a pain to tell you the truth, as the small amount of water left on the screen from the wash would semi dry before the teardrop wipe and then when it did the single wipe you'd end up with a smeared screen again! I found it better just to leave the screen after the washer had done the last wipe and that is still the case.

You had it disabled?  Did yours do it from factory or did a dealer turn it on?

I also miss the teardrop wipe function both front and rear.

I asked my dealer to enable them but they said they can't.

I think the problem is that a lot of water comes to the bottom of the windscreen when sprayed. The sprayer nozzles are so deeply mounted so the wind pushes down a big amount. And the liquid keeps coming up after the last wipe. Watch my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pt44NHbb8VA

It's almost the same at lower speeds I mean above 60-70 kph.

I tried adjusting the nozzles to lower positions but this didn't help.

I have auto wipers and when I spray longer than 5 secs sometimes I have a "teardrop wipe" later because of the big amount of remaining water on the windscreen gets to the sensor by the wind. But it's waste of washer liquid.

By the way the 5 secs is fixed or adjustable via VCDS (Andy)?

It was possible on my Mk2 vRS and my two FL vRS's and was disabled by the dealer on my mk 3 vRS.

That makes no sense seeing they don't come from the factory with it enabled......

How do you know?

How do you know?

Because it they don't come for the factory with it enabled and no has been able to enable it. Hence this thread....

How do you know?

I must have seen at least 20 MkIII Octavias now of varying specs - SE, Elegance & vRS - and not one of them has teardrop wipe enabled for the front wiper (or rear for that matter) from the factory. There are two specific adaptation channels on the 09 BCM

(4)-Rear Window Wiper-Traenenwischen Heck

(17)-Windshield wiper-Traenenwischen Front Status

and I haven't seen a car come from the factory with these enabled.

Things may have changed for the 2015MY as a new RLFS sensor has been introduced from build week 22, 5Q0955547A RLHS, so things do change from the factory.

A colleague at work bought a new A3 a week before I collected my octy so we've been chatting a bit and she just confirmed her A3 has rain sensor auto wipers and does teardrop wipe after washing.  Would a vcds scan of an a3 give us octy owners the information we need to enable this?

Might well do! Use the latest beta and get an adaptation map from controller 09 BCM

I don't have the vcds yet. I intend to get it..... But after buying  the car and an engagement ring recently i'm currently.... Skint.  Since a mate of a mate owns gendan ive even asked about a discount.... Yes I tried it on .... It didn't happen.  However, Once I get it, I'll try and get my colleague to scan her A3 for us.

Because it they don't come for the factory with it enabled and no has been able to enable it. Hence this thread....

Not sure "because" is a valid argument!

They all leave the factory with oil for variable service but everyone I've had, bar this one, from 3 different dealers, has been changed to 10000 miles servicing. I've had to have them changed back to variable. The car is enabled from the factory but disabled by the dealers, or at least this was the case before free servicing, as it was a way of getting a bit more cash! This was confirmed by dealers and Skoda UK.

So I guess the facts we're trying to find out is who is disabling them?

  • 3 months later...

Any news regarding the front teardrop wiper coding? I enabled it with VCDS at the adaptations but (surprise) it doesn't work. I also have auto wipers.

For the rear wiper...the coding was successful. The delay is about ~10 secs, it's perfect.

Yes, it doesn't work.

Just because an adaptation is there doesn't mean it will always work.

I got this to work in my current passat cc, which has auto wipers etc. Is it worth me digging out the coding for that?

Is it a MQB platform?
