1.2 tsi dsg s - are they under powered and retro fit options?

Featured Replies

My dad is considering getting one if the above.

Are they underpowered he is old do not fussed about speed.

Also can you retro fit at dealer cruise control or rear sensors.

I have a 2.0tsi octavia and timing belt failed. Are the new 1.2 tsi chain or belt driven please.

Any help from an Octavia intruder much appreciated.

15400 for a new facelift yeti with dsg seems a brilliant price.

The matter of the cruise control has been raised in the past and I think the conclusion was that it was a lot more expensive than getting fitted at build.

Whether underpowered depends on your perspective.  If you want to beat most things off the lights or overtake in short gaps, then yes, it's underpowered.  However, it'll quite happily sit at 70 all day even on the steeper hills on the UK motorway system, and the dsg complements the 1.2 well because it'll down-change as needed.

It's broadly equivalent in performance to a 1.6 petrol hatch from a few years ago, with less revving needed.

I drive a 2.0 DSG 170hp Yeti - today it was in for a service & I was given a 1.2 TSI manual Yeti as a loan car.

Compared with my 170 - yes it felt considerably down on power.

But underpowered? No I don't think so. Still very sprightly - the 1.2 is an eager & willing engine - and very adequate for the job in hand.

On our pre-FL 1.2 S the rear sensors were dealer fitted, I believe Skoda do a kit, but you only get the bleeper, not a screen display, presumably as the S only has the small display.

The 1.2tsi with dsg is perfectly adequate performance wise.

We are on our 2nd now (1st was pre FL).

It will do 0-60 well under 10secs although is understandably slower acelerating after those kind of speeds. It will easily spin it's front wheels pulling out of a turning if you are not light of right foot - even more so in the wet.

It easily does high 30's mpg too if driven normally.

The engine has a timing chain afaik.

Not having owned a 1.2 Tsi, but reading the manual, according to their figures the DSG equipped version the 0-62 mph (100 kph) is 11.7 or 12.0 seconds (std/outdoor respectively) and knowing manufacturers to do all their tests in ideal conditions, no aircon etc., well under 10 seconds may be a tad optimistic.

This can't really be a criterion of high importance in this case, can it?  The OP said (perhaps unwisely*), of the prospective owner, '...he is old do [sic] not fussed about speed...', so the odd second or two here and there probably wouldn't make or break this purchase :wonder:

* Mind you, if my son said that of me  :@

on inclines up to 12%...so downhill it might and using Tiptronic.

Agreed, but the 0-60 quote gave an impression of power and performance that was misleading.

All I was trying to do was to right a miss-conception bearing in mind the title of the thread !

I'm sure there was a youtube video showing the 0-60 times quoted by Skoda were a bit modest?

I would not expect the engine and box to be such a good combination if I had never driven one but it goes well for what it is Imo.

For rear parking sensors (audio only) fitted at home, look at avrmobiles.co.uk   Fitted in less than an hour, very good service.
