Octavia diesel vrs servicing

Featured Replies

Hi should you wait for the service interval light to come on before you service it?or do I just service it even if the service light hasn't come on?

Regards

Steve

Wait for the service light.

I'll either be set to fixed service intervals (10,000 miles or 12 months - whichever is reached first), or variable / long life servicing (up to 24 months or 20,000 miles - the car monitors the viscosity of the oil, number of cold starts, journey times etc. and decides for itself when it needs a service).

Either way the car will tell you when it needs fresh oil.

If you've recently bought the car and only cover low mileage I'd set the OBC (onboard computer) to fixed.

If you cover high motorway mileage I'd go for variable.

The costs at a main dealer are detailed here together with what each service involves:

Fixed = minor

Variable = major

On top of this you'll need to check for the cambelt and brake fluid. If it's an automatic you'll also need to check to see if it due a DSG oil change.

Difficult to say without more info, though if you're on tbe correct service plan there's no real need. Is it set to fixed or variable service, when was it last serviced and what sort of journeys and annual milage are you doing. Also is it a cr or pd?

At the end of the day you service it when you want.

I service my car every 10k, the service light can go do one lol. When it comes up I just reset it.

I do keep a log of everything which is done to the car using a spreadsheet stating whats done, cost etc so I dont worry about stamps in the book etc and keeping to correct schedules

If you service it every 10K then set the service interval to fixed, then you'll keep the car's computer happy too :D

tbh i think im lucky as by chance someone has already done that lol
