Tyre pressure sensors

Featured Replies

Hey just a stupid question as I've never had a car with them before.

I have a 09 octavia vrs limited edition it has the tyre pressure/sensor/tread button on the centre console. Anytime I push it or hold it down it just comes up with the symbol on maxidot but nothing else happens ? Has the sensors been disconnected or am I just not doing it right ? Only ask as I need 2 front tyres soon and have noticed in the past signs in tyre fitters saying to tell them if you have tyre pressure sensors before they fit tyres . Any help would be great cheers

when you have new tyres fitted at some point after within a few miles or so a warning light will ping up on the dash, Push and hold the set button and it resets to a new default value.

When you change tyres the size will change very slightly due to having more tread so the sensor knows something is up

There are no 'tyre pressure sensors', it uses the ABS sensors to monitor wheel rotation speed.   The button is to reset the system after adjusting pressure or having new tyres fitted, just press and hold the button until the hear a beep, that means it's been reset and will recalibrate as the car is driven.  Of course all this is in the owners manual.

So what's it for then really ?

Whats what for?

it tells you if you have a puncture (any change in the circumference of the tyre) but really you should notice that anyway

I've found they work very well and warn you before you can feel anything or the tyre even looks deflated.

Cheers that's what I was after. Have seen a merc with sensors and when you push a button it comes up on the dash with the pressure in each wheel. Had thought it was something as fancy as that but now I know. Thanks for the help :)

luckily ive not had to use it bar for changing tyres from wear

It also shows a leaky valve as the system will eventually spot a lower pressure in one tyre.

Seems a bit random how well it works on different cars but I found it worked quite well and it picked up a couple of slow punctures for me before I'd noticed.

You have to reset every time you top up the tyres. I'm not sure if your supposed to do it on the move or not. I can't remember.

SWMBOs BMW has this as well but it must be reset after driving a certain distance not at standstill.

It has to be reset after switching the ignition on but before moving off
