Cooling fan not working - 1.4 mpi

Featured Replies

Was wondering if you guys could help me - I posted about the car overheating when idling a little while ago, the radiator doesn't seem to be blocked, all pipes are not, which presumably means the water pump is working. I've left it idling a couple of times at temp recently, to the point of overheating today, and he cooling fan won't kick in. I've replaced fuse 8 at the battery because it was gone, and still nothing, even when I bridge the connections on the switch plug.

I have the Haynes manual, it says to check the relays and fusible link, I've no idea what these are, and despite saying there is a wiring diagram at the back, none of them seem to mention the cooling system at all - am I being dense??

What can I check next? Help!

Cheers

Link # 3 across the battery is also listed as the radiator fan ~ 40 amps.

Cheers, I'll have a look at that one.

The relay/control unit is mounted under the n/s chassis leg under the battery if it has one.

Id put 12v and an earth direct to the fan and see if it runs, if the fuse has blown it sounds like its seized and popped the fuse.

Number 3 looks fine too, so could be the fan motor as mentioned.

Yeah I'll have to give that a go this weekend when I have time, cheers. Presumably they go straight into the socket that's next to the switch socket?
