Help! How do I fix this?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

So last night I noticed something in the middle of my drivers door. It looked like tree sap, so i just got some hot water and a microfibre and washed it off. It came off ok just like tree sap.

Then I realised that whatever it was had damaged the lacquer and i have a crazy paving affect going on. Gutted! I'm assuming it's kind of intensified the sun at that point???

I gave it a bit of a wet sand to see what was what, and here it is...

You can see a little dark triangle towards the bottom of the mark. This is where the lacquer has flaked off completely showing base coat.

It's Skoda black magic metallic. The mark is about 5 or 6cm high. I have in my arsenal matching paint and lacquer, (left over from spraying my grille) different grades of wet and dry, and various cutting compounds and polishes.

Please, What should I do to make best??

While it will polish...It will always have that damage

I would bite the bullet and have the door resprayed TBH

I think the only answer is a respray if its broken the clearcoat and you want a proper repair.

Did the strike through the clear come from your sanding or from the original issue? I find it unlikely that any contamination is going to actually get through the clearcoat like that, so I suspect your sanding has simply gone through?  You could polish out the sanding  marks and possibly much of the etching, but that just increases the likelihood of you striking through the clear again.

Thanks for you replies guys

The strike through is from a little bit of lacquer that had lifted and flaked off. I've barely sanded to be honest. I stopped so that I could take advice. I was wondering whether I should just rub some fresh clear coat into the marks with a cloth, leave for a few days and then just polish, glaze and wax. Probably the best I can do

You can but it will look carp....always

Take it to a bodyshop and it will look new again
