Skoda Superb III forum?

Dont they have alternator issues which led to fires?

It was on BBC Watchdog

Na, that was the power steering hose which if it failed sprayed flammable fluids onto the DPF, been sorted now, bit of a VX own goal tbh, I had a Cavalier that they managed to fit an aircon hose too near the exhaust manifold as well, soon as the foil broke down the pipe melted and let the gas out.

Speaking of VX quality. A woman in my work scrapped her Corsa because the ECU failed, a girl has just gone to go home now and her Corsa won't start. The battery has power, but there's nothing when you turn the key. A woman in my last job had a 1.2 Corsa blow up on her too, only a year old and 5,000 miles.

Common link....

WOMEN! lol

So you have 3 examples, would you like me to find you the thousands of ex VAG owners who either gunked a 5K engine due to a £2 metal spline in the oil pump or all those that went from 70mph to 0mph in the outside lane of a motorway due to an injector?

The VX brand here bugs me, they make some really nice products but it's some of the owners that come with the cars... they just seem to ruin the brand. It tends to be VX more than any other brand too and I find it odd because they do try to come across premium.

But if it was Opel it wouldn't bother me!? Psychologically I have more respect for the Opel brand than the VX one. My friend works at Opel marketing in Frankfurt and they have a joke that all the broken ones get VX badges!  :giggle:

Funny you say that, I'm a pro driver and the worst drivers currently imo are VW Golf ones,

VX has never tried to be premium, it's a workhorse car, and one that stands up, the latest ones are better styled and finished than some of the older ones though, you get so much more for so much less tbh, I could've bought a B7 for 50% more than I paid for the Insignia like for like spec, brand new at full retail I'd always buy the VAG car but only because of depreciation, second hand VAG has yer pants down with it's buy it back methods where they effectively keep all 0-3 year old VAG cars within their own network, price fixing in a way, always done it I used to work for them,

Best car of my driving life is the Omega, the times I had company executives in the car who wanted one but the company insisted they had a BMW or a Merc was surreal, and that's no BS, and for me in it's day it was just a mile eater, the Insignia kinda reminds me of it in a way.

The 2.0 PD was a massive **** up. A great failure on VAGs part. However 1.9s go forever if looked after. If his 1.9 went I doubt it had been looked after. As for the other 2 PD engines. If they were the 2.0 PD then yes the oil pumps do go. Unfortunately as above one of VAGs failures.

We could throw arguments back and forth. But as this is a Skoda forum, I doubt Vauxhall will get much love here. And as much as you may dislike Skoda. They are proven to be one of the most reliable brands and the most satisfying to own. Look at all the survey results. They speak for themselves.

Also look at What Car? The Insignia gets a terrible review, but the Skodas all get 4 and 5 stars.

I don't dislike Skoda, I just like to chat and compare,

What Car lol, if you believe that crap you need to see the Doctor, that is a sponsored rag, he who pays most gets the favoured review, and tbh Skoda is now infiltrated by those who would never admit they got it wrong etc, when I first joined here Skodas were affordable and owned by those who were savvy, it resembles an Audi forum now lol, still a good forum but it makes me laugh to watch those who would've pulled out the heated rear window joke at a cocktail party some years ago trying to be all in the know because they own a Skoda now lol, not saying that's you btw Alan, but there's plenty of em about now.

My issue with ford and vauxhall (besides dealer network) is how dull their interiors are.

Ford's big buttons, ovals and blanking plates everywhere to remind you that you couldn't afford a decent spec or all the extras.

They're also pretty expensive when you consider the volumes sold.

gadge,

The Fords are heavy to drive and heavy on fuel, can't say the inside wets my pants either, the old Vectra was plain bland inside but the new gen cars are a lot better, not sure about the fannywheels like the Adam though,

I got my £27K 2 year old SRi Nav auto for £10500 with 36k on it, wouldn't have wanted to pay £27k for it, and I just got my mate a FL Elite on a 63 for £17250, another Passat Sport like for like at the time I got mine was £15500 same miles, age etc, I gave up looking at s/h Superbs in the end, the thick end of 17k for 2+ year old cars wasn't viable for me, I'd had enough of sitting low down in the car as well tbh,

Mondeo's for some reason are pricey, god knows why as they are nothing special imo.

  • 1 month later...

...and a continued tradition of full sized spare...

Full sized spare on this one!...

1939 Superb featuring two spare wheels behind front mudguards, leaving more space in the trunk or space for fuel tank!
