Anyone..................................................? :(

Surely they would be exactly the same stopping distances , because the ABS would be set up the same on both vehicles. I could be wrong though :D

Point of putting bigger brakes is that it would be much harder to overheat, so it could have the same stopping distance in first and tenth braking.

In full on maximum braking situations it will be the tyres & ABS which determine how quickly you stop. In track use with the standard setup I have no trouble at all in getting the ABS to activate so the stock set up has enough power.

The question of fade is difficult. At the track I use, the tarmac is not mega grippy & I find that after 30 mins of hard use I do not have fade but the feel of the brakes is getting poor. On a modern grippy track it may be different.

On the road if you have bedded in the pads properly ( to avoid green fade) & you get fade then I suspect you are not going to have a license for much longer.

What is poor about the standard set up is feel & the fact that the stock pad disk set up is very agressive. The pads destroy the disks quickly producing a very grooved surface. The other problem is that you can not get many upgraded pads for the stock size.

To really do a good comparison you would need to compare a new original against a new 312 setup. Lots of people say the 312 feels better than the original but I find that if you change an old worn original size disk & pads for a brand new disks & pads you will also notice vastly improved feel.

I have a set of 312s in the UK waiting for fitting in winter but if I were only using the car on the road I wouldn't bother.

I have found the brakes to be pretty rubbish on my 2005 vRS.

The speed of the car way too much for the std. set up, dealer reackons it should get better when the pads have done about 2K ( only up to 1200 at present ), not sure if this is true, but both demo cars I drove did have a much better feel on the brakes

As I understand it.....

ABS is set-up (tweaked) based on the braking infrastructure. A number of parameters can be adjusted to change how and when it intervenes. Replacing the calipers with bigger ones with different sized (bigger?) pistons and replacing the disks is likely to result in less than optimal ABS performance.

I 'think' I read about it on STOPTECH website but I may be wrong.

Can the ABS adjust itself for the bigger set up??

yes the brake system will relearn itself , all that brake balance and electronic brake force distribution stuff

ABS just stops the wheels from locking up and I would expect it to come on a little early due to the bigger brakes being able to apply much more force.

Now if you had wider wheels they is alot more surface area in contact with the road so it should stop you quicker without the ABS working.

Get a few more miles on them. Wasn't happy with mine when new but they've gotten a lot more powerful without being grabby now there's a few miles on the clock. I do 100 fast miles a day (including windy B roads :D ) and am more than happy with them now
