Steering Lock/Ignition Barrel

Featured Replies

Went out to the Felly at the weekend and first of all couldn't get the key in the ignition...After much jiggling (ooh err etc) I got the key in but it won'the turn and the steering lock is on.

So looks as though I need to replace the lock/barrel assembly.

Afrer some reasearch I believe that is held into the carrier that bolts to the column with one sheer bolt. Can I replace the lock/barrel just by removing that bolt? or do I need to remove the carrier too?

Also I guess I'll be getting a new key. Is it just a case of fitting it with the chip from the old key to get it working with the immobiliser?

If it's not been used in ages it might just need a bit of lubrication to free it up.

Had to replace it. Not a difficult job but I had to cut the immobiliser chips out of both new and old keys and fit old chip to new key. At first sight it looks as though the chip is an integral part of the oem key but in fact it's just glued in with what looks like superglue. It can be separated with careful use of a sharp craft knife. The ignition switch/lock assembly is a "FAB 6008m" on >98 cars. May be able to source cheaper than from Skoda? Certainly a few CZ sites list under that name.
