Parking light change

Featured Replies

I read threads on here about this, armed myself with some long nosed pliers, removed the headlight cluster with ease, but can't for the life of me find the 501 parking light. I can see the twist knob for the indicator light, the rubber seal over the high beams and the screwed on box for the xenons....

I know the 501 is supposed to be above the indicator....but where is the access?

Pop the rubber cover off, it will be under there. (On a pre-fl anyway)

On a VRS it isn't used!

What isn't used on the VRS?

What isn't used on the VRS?

The 501 bulb is used as a parking light on non VRS cars as they don't have the LED DRL's that the VRS uses.

What what?? But the maxi dot warning says 'front right parking light not working'.....

I have the pre-FL VRS....no DRLs...unless I'm grossly mistaken!

Only you will know if you're grossly mistaken or not lol! ;)

I just spotted VRS in your car description and jumped to the wrong conclusion that it was a FL model!

thanks, RainbowFire and john999boy!

FL VRS have LED strip, pre-FL donnt...

Cheers

Never had to do it but my owners manual says to remove the headlight first to reveal the parking light holder !!!

D'oh, my bad (Show how often I change lights) it is indeed under the plastic plastic square. Unpop the two large clips.

And you will need to use a little force since bulb housing is tight fitted...but donnt be afraid it will not brake/crack.

Much easier to remove the headlight if you haven't already?

Thanks guys for the clarification. Apologies for the delay, as the parking light started working again....the filament must have made a connection mysteriously. If it goes off again, I will follow your instructions.

I have indeed taken the headlight out. But if it is under the plastic square, the Xenons are in there too sealed with some screws. Is it safe to venture in there, bearing in mind the high voltage warning on the back?

Yes, because to have removed the light, you'll have disconnected it from the car, and any residual charge left will have been chewed up by the light long before you've removed the cover. I upgraded my sidelights to LEDs with cancelers on with no problems at all. (A visual improvement too as the sides now match the dipped :) :) :) )

Most of these "warnings" are designed to encourage you to return the dealer so they can fleece you again ;)

thanks, guys...you're the best! Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some sort of capacitor in there which would hold charge even after disconnecting!
