Another worn seat query

Featured Replies

My drivers seat is looking a bit worse for wear on the right hand side, both the base and lowest section on the back has really worn, unlike the rest of the seat.

Is this normal?

I wear suit and shirt all week whilst driving, nothing in my pockets whatsoever. The was some minor wear when I bought the car in Jan, but seems to have worsen over time

Also the leather covered section on the right of the seat base seems to have taken a battering!

I am not a big guy, around 83kg's  6ft

Car is currently on 45K MY12

It's going in to dealers next week for aircon compressor under warranty - is it worth mentioning to them?

thanks

That looks quite excessive to me for the miles and age, I have a 56 plate sport that's got 180,000 on and the seat looks better than that.

Plus I'm a taxi driver, so I'm in and out the car 50-100 times a day 6 days a week.

I know mine are all black cloth, but I would have thought the leather would have lasted a lot longer than that

I had the same on my 2012 VRS. Your wear pattern looks very similar, though your mileage is higher - mine had only done 20K. Again, I never have keys or anything abrasive in my back pocket and I didn't have any problem with the seat on my previous VRS that had done 70K.  In my case the dealer agreed it was  quality issue and the seat cover was replaced under warranty, so I'd hope you will get a similar response.

Overly aggressive trousers there fellah.  :D

Unfortunately, I think they're going to quote the old chestnut to you........"Fair wear and tear"

the leather looks like normal wear and tear caused by being squashed when existing/entering the car and the top bit seems like being caused by the seat belt.

although the wear on cloth doesn't look too good and worth highlighing it mentioning it to your dealer

Thanks for the replies.

I will point it out to my dealer on Tuesday

will keep you posted

cheers

Wear to seat look similar to mine ! 2012 VRS on 18k

I`m at the dealers in the morning for service and I`ll mention it to the service manager and see what they say !

Mine is the same, at 44k.  The car is also going in for air-con work next week so I will bring up the subject.  It looks like the dealer network is going to be hearing reports from a number of Briskoda members at the same time.  Will they report back to Skoda UK?

Mine didn't look that bad after 7yr 83k. Leather was a bit more worn but not the fabric.

Do you keep a wallet in your back pocket, just that the wear is at one side in a the back pocket area?

Great result - why are they replacing the seat? I'll be happy with just my covers replaced, lets hope they agree, fingers crossed!

just had call from dealer, and they have said that it is wear and tear, and they had a bulletin from skoda uk saying that at above a certain mileage, seat damage is classed as wear and tear and not covered under warranty!

Well,, now to take up with skoda uk!!

  • Author

Right referred to SUK and case open, should hear back from them in 48hrs with an update

  • Author

well. not good. SUK's technical dept are saying it's wear and tear, blaming it on the previous owner, even though it has worsened considerably over the last 10k miles!

I have escalated up, but don't hold out much hope.

I am somewhat disappointed at my local dealer who said he would support the claim, but I was told by SUK that the dealer also thought it was wear and tear, which he did not say to my face.

Well, I was not overly impressed and asked for the complaint to be escalated, I will hear back from them today, but don't expect anything positive!

I just noticed that mine has the same strange wear pattern on it - i'm the same as you, just suit trousers and jeans normally.

Strange thing is mine has only done 19k.......

I've got a 12 month Skoda warranty so maybe i'll have a chat with SUK.

mine is going ok but i always make the effort to not rub against the bolsters so i out the seat right back geting in/out of the car to prevent this happening

Suit trousers with button down pockets ? Could it be where the button is rubbing against the fabric ?

  • Author

I do have button down pockets on both sides of suit trousers, but it is strange that only one side is wearing and the lower back rest is too?,

Last time I checked, my right arse cheek does not stick out more than my left :)

Missed the call from. SUK earlier

Good luck!

Bit worn in my view. Only the leather bit on mine is worn but polished it nice and proper recently and looks nice...

Well finally heard from SUK, again and they have stuck with their original decision, and concluded it is wear and tear, not covered under warranty!

Not impressed at all!

does anyone have the part number for the seat cover with red stitching, as I may just attempt it myself

Thanks

You could get the centre of the seats leather trimmed too. Might be a similar price to the OEM material.

Funny you should say that, our new red leather sofa is having the seat leather replaced due to some cracks in one part of it.

I will be left with a fair bit of leather - thinking of using this on my seats

No idea how much it will cost to do or if it can be done?
