engine upgrade

Featured Replies

right guys,

ive gotten extremely bored of the 1.4 fabia mpi 2000,

the question i got is what engine could i upgrade to without loads of work ?

would rather keep the skoda than sell and buy something else

thanks

Surely the easiest route would be to chop it in for a vrs if you want to stay with the skoda brand.

1.8t conversion? :)

There is no such solution, any change to a more powerful engine will require a donor vehicle, lots of space and facilities, time, tools and nous.

I'm assuming you don't have access to any of these things because you've asked such a daft question.

or a cheap PD100, better economy and power, engine lasts forever! :)

I love the way people just assume there is an easy engine swap available, the truth is without the skills and tools to do it yourself there are no cheap options, the 1.8t is probably the most cost effective but budget 4k plus for someone to do it right. The other problem you have is the reliability issue, I have never yet come across a conversion which doesn't have its teething trouble. The last point I make as someone who has converted a number of cars to run a different engine is it just isn't worth the aggro, buy a car with the engine you want already in it as it will be cheaper and more reliable.

Fun but a number of challenges/expenses. Personally, I think you'd be better off plonking a better VAG 4 pot petrol in. Though how to do that whilst minimising other chnages is the question.

Main question is: To you, what's an upgrade? Or better question: What's a worthy upgrade? A petrol 1.6 or 1.8 might be a good swap if you're not after huge power.

As if it were the next level on a game; 'just pop a bigger engine in, sorted' haha

To the OP

Put your current car in as a part ex for something bigger/faster/more powerful, which ever you are after. An awful lot of work to put a larger engine in a car, a huge headache, and that is before you start worrying about clutches, gearboxes, as well as everything else.

Then there is the faff of re registering it to the DVLA and having it checked to be proven road worthy. Nightmare.
