How different is the 100bhp 1.9 TDi compared to the 130bhp model? Yeah, I know - 30 bhp! Is it simply a chip/ECU difference or is there hardware differences too? ie can a 100 bhp engine simply be chipped to say 170 bhp? 

Turbo and injectors.

Pd100 goes to around 130-140bhp with similar torque to a pd130.

100bhp = 5speed gearbox

130bhp = 6speed box, bigger injectors, bigger turbo, different intercooler no doubt, and stronger engine.

 

100bhp remaps to around 130-140bhp, torque to about 200-220lbs if I remember right   (i've got a remapped 100bhp)

 

130bhp remap easily to 180bhp or more, and around 300lbs torque (about as much as the clutch and gubbins can handle safely really)

I think the side mount intercoolers are pretty identical to be honest.   The engine is slightly stronger but 170 to 180bhp is in no way pushing the pd100 hard.   The G60 flywheel and clutch cope fine with it too.

Thank you for the prompt responses; I was curious whether buying and modding a 100bhp Fabia might be less expensive than 'improving' a vRS.  Food for thought ...

I know people are running 220-230bhp on TDIclub PD100 engines without any issues.

I'd just put a PD130 VRS engine and 6 speed box in.
