Wondered why you didn't upgrade your 80mm front and rear badges to the latest ones.(attachment)

Doing a great job with your latest car addition.

Why did you not get a petrol engined motor as opposed to a diesel?

Cheers guys! I hoped to give the car a bit of a detail last Sunday but sadly it rained for most of the day. Fingers crossed for some better weather this weekend coming!

Thanks!

I did not know the later style badges where a direct fit, That said I never really looked as I prefer the look of the original earlier style badge! I went for the VRS Diesel opposed to a Petrol Fabia as for me the VRS has a bit of everything....Good looks, Adequate everyday performance even in standard form, Fuel economy, Reliability and cheap running costs.

The range of petrol engines fitted to the MK1 Fabia are very poor by comparison, The PD130 is the best engine available in the range in my opinion anyway :)

Before the Fabia I had a string of High Performance Petrols and will probably buy another one but it will serve as a second car, I will be keeping the Fabia as my daily.

Mk1 Fabias suit the original style badges IMO

Have you ever spent about 6 hours detailing your car and then just as you get the camera out it starts to rain? :rain: SOUL DESTROYING!

Anyway  :D as mentioned got up nice and early with the idea of giving the car its first clean/detail since fitting the new wheels, Badges, Mudflaps etc and driving to a nice location to get some snaps, Rain spoiled play right as I was going to go out so I took some snaps outside the house.

Usual cleaning routine, Minus Tar removal, Claying, Polishing and Waxing as I gave the car a full detail about 1 month ago...

: Rinsed the car, Wheel arches and Wheels thoroughly.
: Cleaned the fuel filler flap. All door, Bonnet and boot-lid shuts, Front Scuttle and Rubber door drains using detailing brush and APC to high concentrate.
: Rinsed car again.
: Washed the car using 2 bucket method one panel at a time with a Lambswool mitt and Meguires ultimate shampoo.
: Washed the wheels, Tyres and wheel arches using a Meguires Microfibre Mitt, Valet-Pro Detailing brush, Meguires Soft wheel brush for the wheel backs and bottle container with foaming head containing Megs soap to a high concentrate.
: Rinsed the car/wheels again.
: Dryed the whole car with Elite XL drying towel and using Autoglym Aqua wax (I use this as a top up between waxes with Collinites), Dried the wheels, Door shuts and engine bay with Microfibre towel.
: Dressed the door strips, Black plastic trim, Front scuttle and Wiper arms, Mudflaps with Autoglym Bumper and trim care using a sponge applicator and then buffed excess with a Microfibre cloth.
: Applied 2 x coats of Collinites 845 wax to the wheels using a sponge applicator and Microfibre to remove.
: Dressed the tyres using Megs endurance tyre gel.
: Dressed the wheel arch liners with Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber care.
: Polished the tailpipe with Autosol.
: Dressed the Black plastics in the engine bay with Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber care and wiped off any excess with microfibre.
: Finished the whole car off with a spritz of Megs Detailer spray and Chemical boys ultra plush Finishing towel.

A few snaps from todays efforts, Not the best pictures as the light was pretty poor and it began raining :( ....

Reflection shot, Not bad for a Silver car...

Refurbed wheels with new centre caps, new wheel nut covers and new Goodyear F1's, Really happy with how these have turned out, Also happy with the Pantone 348 paint for the calipers...

Notice the centre caps line up with the valves and the valves line up with the Goodyear badges on the tyres ;) OCD...

Although this is usually satisfying to see, It would have been nice to have rained a few hours or even days later LOL...

Thanks Damo, It has come on a long way in the last 2-3 weeks and I am very happy with how it now looks.

Now to just keep on top of it and enjoy it!

So compared to the last few weeks there has not really been much to report over the last week, The Goodyears are bedding in nicely and a much quieter than the Yokohama's that where fitted previously! I managed to sell the my old wheels and tyres to a local lad with a Fabia VRS SE so all good there.

My first bulb popped the other day on the way to work, It was the drivers side dipped beam H7 bulb that failed so I popped to Halfords and purchased a pair of their Ultra Brilliance +120% bulbs and replaced both bulbs. I can definitely see an improvement over the old bulbs!

Generally I am much happier with the way the car now looks, I also have total piece of mind driving the car as its now Fully Serviced, All the brakes have been replaced inc fluid changed, New tyres all round and the timing belt is not due for another 2 years so it really wants for nothing which is how I like my cars to be.

I think to be honest the car is probably finished from my point of view other than keeping it clean.

So firstly don't worry I wont be posting pictures of the car up everyweek LOL!

After I had detailed the car last week I intended to get a few shots on the camera in a nicer location than the front of our house, Did an early shift this morning so got home early afternoon and had about 3-4 hours on the car this afternoon.

Finally it did not rain after I had finished cleaning it and sun stayed out (sort of) so I got a few snaps...

Think I might have lost the plot a bit but even after ploughing hours of time and money into the car over the last month or so to get it how I want it I am getting itchy feet! I went out with a friend in a 470BHP Saab on Thursday night which was pretty insane to be honest and it has left a bit of an impression on me.

I am used to having 300bhp Petrol cars and whilst I wont be going for something quite as insane as that Saab power wise I really fancy another Golf Edition 30 and to go Stage 2/2+ so I reckon once my house move is complete over the next month or so I will get the Fabia MOT'd and up for sale OR if I see one at a dealers then I might chop the Fabia in but would rather sell it private to a fellow enthusiast.

Were you in Shrewsbury the other week in this, parked opposite C21? :)

Alright Kev, No mate not me! Have had a busy few weeks with shifts at work so have not really been anywhere other than work and back.

Might be my cars twin ;)

Oh right! It looked mint, and had a polished tailpipe! :D

Excellent read this thread. I have just purchased a oneowner silver 56 model from a forum member in fantastic condition bit you will put me to shame in the amount of time on the detailing aspect. Can't believe you are thinking of getting rid.

He doesn't keep his cars very long our Simon

Whoever buys it, will get a beauty that's for sure

Mmmmm shall keep my eyes peeled in the for sale section lol

Thanks! Hope your Fabia treats you well :)

As Damo says, I have never been one for keeping my cars long. However as he also says this does not mean that I do not look after them....Quite the opposite!

I have bought and sold many cars to many forum members on various owners clubs over the years including Damo.

Thanks for the kind words Damo :)

Sadly I am not a paid up member so unfortunately I will be unable to stick and advert on here.

Well I have still got the Fabia! MOT time in a few weeks, Quite confident it will fly through as I have gone through everything on the car over the last 6 weeks.

I am changing my mind on a daily basis on whether or not to keep the Fabia as my daily and buy something as a second car/toy OR whether to just sell it and buy something else as my main car

Keep...    Sell...     Keep...    Sell ...    Keep...

:D

We've all been there mate.

Buy something fun as a second car if you can afford to run 2.

Nissan 200 SX and drift everywhere in it

I had one a few years back, was much fun (especially in the wet!)

Firstly, Did you see what happened to the 200SX I owned in 2009? I stay well clear of high powered RWD cars, I don't have the talent.

As for the Keep/Sell/Keep/Sell you know it all too well Damo LOL. The way I see it is I can have 2 cars that both cost about the £4k mark and insure/run them both OR just have one more expensive car. Question is what would I enjoy the most?

In the past owning/running a second car has never been an option both financially and for storage reasons. I have always had to make a compromise too and buy something which did a bit of everything as it has always been a daily. Anything that I bought which was a bit daft or even something show quality condition wise in Summer got sold for a cheap shed for Winter. Now I am in a much better financial position and a garage I have too many choices and not a clue what to do....

Option 1. Keep the Fabia as a daily, Buy a bit of a project car. Nothing too costly. Something stripped out with an engine conversion and that's bonkers 300-400bhp.....Probably Saab powered. Already spoke to my current insurer who I have been with for years and as I have a modified policy on the Fabia they are happy to Mirror the NCD on my current policy which opens up many options.

Option 2. Keep the Fabia as a daily, Buy something that qualifies for Classic Insurance, Something that is a good base to start with then get it upto a good level of condition and do some shows with it. Possibly a modern classic 80's/90's car. Run it for 6 months and keep it in the garage for Winter. Again had some quotes from Peter Best on a few modern Classics.

Option 3. Sell the Fabia, Replace it with one more expensive car that would have to be a daily but also fulfil my performance requirements, Something modern and in mint condition, Practical-ish but tunable also. That list of cars is much smaller and limits my choice as I am no big fan of the majority of modern performance cars and being so selective over what brands/marques I would buy makes it difficult.

We shall see  :D

Option 2 for me.

I'd buy a mk2 golf or an RS Turbo, and tinker with it

So you've got a garage?

Get a bike engined kit car in there ;)

It would have to be a MK1 Golf GTI if I was to go down that route, Not a fan of RS Turbo's the engines are garbage and hate MK4 Escorts although the MK3 Series 1 RS Turbo and RS1600i are acceptable (I know they share the same engine but they are a much better looking car)....Not a Ford fan at all really with the exception of a few model's which are well out of reach financially.

So you've got a garage?

Get a bike engined kit car in there ;)

Sadly drives the wrong wheels for my liking, I don't do RWD very well
