Bonelorrys Mk1 Furby VRS

Featured Replies

It would have to be a MK1 Golf GTI if I was to go down that route, Not a fan of RS Turbo's the engines are garbage and hate MK4 Escorts although the MK3 Series 1 RS Turbo and RS1600i are acceptable (I know they share the same engine but they are a much better looking car)....Not a Ford fan at all really with the exception of a few model's which are well out of reach financially.

Sadly drives the wrong wheels for my liking, I don't do RWD very well

Very easy to drive ;)

6 speed sequential gear change, circa 12,000rpm,very light so no weight to cause pendulum type sideways moments!! :D

  • Option 2 for me.   I'd buy a mk2 golf or an RS Turbo, and tinker with it

I can imagine they are a right laugh to drive and really capable, Not too expensive either to buy/build either.

Still think I will be steering clear of anything RWD though!

Well until Tuesday the car has been totally faultless in my ownership until.....

On my way home, Went to pull out of a junction and had to put my foot down to build up a bit of speed and whhhhooooosssh! Lots of black smoke and loss of power, Knew what it was before I even pulled over! Yup Bottom Intercooler hose had popped off. I know its quite common and have seen other members in the past post about this on their car's.

Very luckily I was less than 1/2 a Mile from my friends garage where I do all of my mechanical work and it was all downhill so I rolled it down and parked it up, Popped to TPS in Hillsborough and ordered a replacement hose. It was the small 90 degree one that's about 6" long and costs £110 which is an extortionate amount for what it is! part number 6Q0145832C.

Fitted this afternoon and cured my problem straight away so all good again, While the car was at the garage I had it MOT'd as it is due in a few weeks anyway. Passed with no problems at all.

Anyway I can't really hold this against the car, Still have full trust in it and even though I have only been without it for a few days I actually missed it especially having to use my other halfs Fiesta for work  :D

Ouch :o

A new rubber seal and tweak the metal 'barbs' usaully sorts these out.

The Intercooler was brand new a few years ago but I suspect the lugs might have been damaged on the hose coupling when removing/refitting, The lugs or metal barbs where damaged and worn which is why I presume that the hose popped off under pressure.

To be fair the hose in question did have a slight weep on the joints as there was an oil mist visible, All the others are spot on.

All good now though :)

Well that's all folks.......

Been to look at a few different cars over the last month or so with a view of keeping the Fabia as a daily and having a second car as a toy, After viewing 3 or 4 so called "Mint" cars only to find upon arrival they where well below average and one a total shed I began to get a bit bored of looking and travelling around the country on my days off only to have my time wasted.

Meanwhile over the last month of so I have also had a Wanted advert on the MK5GolfGTI forum for a Golf GTI Edition 30 but again sadly this did not really generate any offers or at-least any decent examples, Then this morning I popped onto the Autotrader and spotted what looked like a really nice and original example at a Dealership in Derbyshire that specialises in Golf R32's and Golf GTI's etc. I gave them a phonecall and arranged to go and have a viewing this afternoon.

Anyway I made the trip down the M1 and averaged a nice 68MPG in the Fabia, I was left to my own devices looking around the Golf and could not fault it at all cosmetically, It certainly ticked all the right boxes condition wise and was upto my standards even down to having a full set of Continental Sport Contacts fitted! I went through everything else on the car with a fine tooth-comb, Checked through all the paperwork and after a test-drive which I enjoyed very much I made my offer which he accepted........

I then jokingly said how much would you give me for the Fabia as a P/X, He looked around the car and commented on how clean it was and went back inside to look on his computer for a book price. I did not expect much but I was not bothered as I was going to advertise the Fabia on Briskoda anyway but he came back and said he would be happy to put the Fabia on his forecourt and as it was such a good example he offered me £3500 for it as a P/X against the Golf.

I was happy with that so I shook his hand and the rest is history!

Very sad to see the Fabia go as it has been an absolute pleasure to own over the last year but I can't justify having a Golf Edition 30 and a Fabia VRS!

So here is where it all begins, I will be going through the Golf as I did on the Fabia and have done with all my cars in the past, Sorting any niggles that bug me, Doing all the little details. Starting tomorrow with a marathon detailing session :)

I might make a new thread dedicated to the Golf but here it is as of now....

2007 Golf GTI Edition 30 Number #0337

Tornado Red

3 Door

62K Miles

Totally standard (For Now)

FSH

2 Owners, Last owner owned the car from 6 months old until last week and has really looked after the car.

Lots of plans for the car, Replacing the Diverter for a Rev G, Doing the Cam Follower and PCV. A stage one map is a must most likely going to be an R-Tech.

Excuse the crappy mobile phone picture....

Looks nice that Simon, and in the fastest colour too ;)

Shame such a nice Fabia disappeared from the site, but sounds like you got the deal you wanted with no hassles.

Will be interested to see your plans for the Golf though :)

Just make sure you stay around this time, plenty of non skoda owners on here.

Cheers

Cheers Damo,

I will stay around mate no probs, A good bunch on here!

I did say to the dealership that if any fellow members ask about the whereabouts of the car and are interested in buying it then I would happily pass on their details, The dealership said they would happily do a fellow Briskodian a good deal on the car!

The owner of the dealership is a massive VW nut, Loves his Coraddo VR6's and still owns 2! Another reason I was happy dealing with them, He wasn't a typical car salesman it was just laid back and a pleasant and easy experience.

Cheers

Those Eddies are so nice. I've recently just sold My Mk5 GTI to enter into Skoda ownership!
