Running rough help please!

Featured Replies

Right guys yesterday Fabia EML light came on but still drove alright however today it was juttery, really struggled and knocked a bit on start up also has a strong smell of petrol when stationary, worse yet went to overtake a Insignia and halfway through the move I lost all power and had to lift off and then put power on again to get past to safety! It then smelt like burning so I pulled over for a bit! I'm in the middle of nowhere with no diagnostics to hand, does anyone have any ideas what is up with the car and if so would it be safe to drive the car 260 miles home?

sounds like it may have been misfiring? jsut a guess.

I think there have been a few threads about ignition/fuel issues with the 1.2 3 Pot engines.

Good luck with it mate

I'm tempted to just scrap the thing! It's cost me £300 in two weeks! Maybe I should just do a 1.8t conversion! Well it could be another aa truck home then as all I've got is very basic tools

so have you had any engine work?

IIRC these engines have had:

Timing Chain tensioner issues

Burnt up Exhaust valves or other Valvetrain problems

Crank or Camshaft position sensors

What id say is in the time you have owned it, how much have you had to spend on it? if its £300 in two weeks after 2 years of  not going wrong, then id say keep it!

Just been having issues with camshaft sensor wiring which I got repaired apart from that just exhaust and catalytic convertor had it 2/3 months

Oh and oxygen sensors! So it might be drive able home but it might not be?

So it turns out my wiring has been rubbing and has burnt out and snapped apparently causing failiure of other components such as throttle body :(

Thanks for reporting back with information about the failure.

Although it may be a hassle to sort out, it could've surely been worse news.  Throttle-body should be fairly cheap and easy to acquire on eBay if that's still not working right after repairs to the affected wiring.  Where did it rub?

Best of luck with the repairs.

It rubbed in the wiring trails pretty much parallel with the coil pack! As I've got another car for now I'm not sure what will happen
