Collinite 915 - how long to cure before reapplication?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, possibly the first time I've posted in here... I've just detailed both of the cars and I'm on the last leg now. I've just applied the first layer of wax and wondered what people recommended for a curing time? I'm going to try to get three layers on there so its well protected for the winter months. Thanks in advance.

I recommend a minimum of one hour in dry clean conditions.

With that said I am not 100% convinced on the merits of layering Collinite's waxes, they are fairly solvent heavy so in theory adding a second layer has the potential to degrade the first layer.

In practice though I think the worst outcome is that you will just make sure you have very complete coverage.  Colli always gives good durability for me.

915 is a really good wax.

That's great, thanks. I usually only get one good layer on there tbh but I've gone the full hog with prepping, polishing etc so if I can make this last longer with more wax coats, I'd rather :) I'm guessing there's no merit in using one of my other waxes on top of the first layer of Collinite btw? Better to stick with the same one?

(I've got another Collinite one - 476, Harley wax, megiuars tech wax 2, AG HD and a poor boys one btw).

I'm with Mark on this too

Layering adds very little IMO.

More important is the preparation before you add the wax

Maybe I'll leave it as just this one then. The prep was spot on, they look great so I'm really happy and don't want to chance diluting down the effect at this stage. Thanks again :)

Add another after a few weeks and keep doing that

When the beading begins to fail ..top up

OR

Get some Sonax BSD and add after every 2 or three washes

I have never applied two layers of Colli - 915 or 476s at the same time / same day.  As above, topping up when the performance looks to be going is the best way in my experience.

Thanks again for the advice. Pleased with how its turned out, especially for just a half day session. :)

Looks great - you can make a good argument for 2 layers if absolite durability is needed, and 24 hours apart if the weather has been fairly good. Cant see the point of 3 though.

Just a further update! Please don't take this the wrong way guys... It's simply my nature, I just like to see 'what if...' sometimes for myself...

I just tried a second layer of collinite on the bonnet of the fiesta...

It definitely looses some 'sharpness' - like the layers have interacted and sort of merged in slightly... There was a very slight haze that wasn't present before. I've brought it right back up now but I can see exactly what you guys mean now so I'll carry on putting my time in to prep and just just aim for one layer of Collinite in future. Many thanks once again :)
