Paint Touch Up

Featured Replies

By mistake ive chipped a small bit of paint off the front lip on the front spoiler. Does anyone know how much a skoda dealer would charge to rectifty the problem?

Chips Away or Dentmaster would be the cheapest option - but ONLY if it's the paint that's damaged.

Touch up kits from the dealer are dirt cheap and a perfect match. And seeing as its on the lip of the spoiler ( I assume the lower edge) who is going to notice?

I dont wish to buy a DIY touch up kit for a new car as Ill probably mess it up. I want a perfect finish. u can just see it if u look closely, and im a perfectionist, symmetry is everything!

In that case, don't drive it around :D

You'll going to get scratches, dents, chips and worse eventually. And in that case, a touch up kit is going to be your best option. Unless you can afford a respray everytime?

Im a careful driver though!

The whole front spoiler wont need respraying just the scrapes on the lip, does anyone have an idea how much it would cost at a bodyshop, and also at skoda?

A lot more than I would be prepared to pay for that type of damage. And I doubt very much that a paint shop would spray just the edge of a spoiler. If you think that is all it needs, then buy an aerosol can of touchup paint and have a go yourself.

Someone like Chip's Away is your best bet if you don't want to touch-in yourself.

They will be able to match the paint and spray a small area - so you won't have to have the whole spoiler repainted.

But yours is Silver metallic? The only way to get a perfect finish on that would probably be a whole bumper respray, and then you have the metallic to match. I still think a touch up would be best, the colour will be a perfect match, just dont bother with the laquer.

Andy

Why not bother with the laquer?

I'm getting a touch up set soon...

Mark

Tripper - makes no difference how careful you are. You can't avoid the chips - especially if you enjoy going for the occasional blast.

The first blemish always causes great pain. Only took 2 days for mine. Like my wise mate said, at least when you've got a few minor scuffs you don't feel the need to drive around in the car as if it's made out of porcelain!

Mark

Enjoy the car, Use a touch up kit from your dealer to prevent corrosion & keep it looking reosnably good. Then once a year get it to a body shop for a blow over, I used to do this with the Scoob & had a cash agreement with a body shop, Bonnet, Front Wings & Bumper + a wheel respray

That's a cool deal, Stuart :)

Much more practical than aiming for perfection after every tiny mishap.

But please define "blow over" :)

Because the laquer is too thick and just blobs. Just use the colour stick, you will be suprised how good it looks.

When you have yours you will see what I mean.

Andy

Slightly off topic - I noticed a few chips whilst changing my wheels on Sunday. Where can I get a good laquer (or other restorative) for those annoying marks? It's really annoying, because I'm obsessively careful with my wheels.

Sorry m8, I dont know why I thought yours was silver. Anyway, I still suggest the touch up kit, but if it comes with laquer (as not sure if your paint is flat) then dont use it...just the colour.

Andy

ps...I agree the best colour for a vRS.

Mark,

"ASSUMING" its a serious question its a case of making it look like new !!, If it had had any dents we would have visited dentmaster first as they are the cheapest way of getting out small dents, quite a few body shops use them but they dont let on !!!

stuart

Oh yeah, it was a serious question :)

Halfords sell a kit containing primer and touch up paint with lacquer for the metallic version. IIRC it costs
