Traffic light conspiracy?

Featured Replies

I've ranted about this in the past i know, but seriously, is it my imagination or is it actually getting worse?

More and more TL's turning to red as you approach them when there's absolutely nothing coming out of the opposing junction, and then quite often having to sit there waiting for a car to approach....and then it turns red for them ! :wall:

This is seemingly a night time only problem, and when the roads are quiet.

Making good progress is out of the question, and I'm finding it increasingly bloodcurdlingly infuriating.

I've emailed 2 councils about this, and they say they'll look into it and get back to me.

Needless top say, I'm still waiting for the definitive answers.

Traffic engineers please feel free to reply.

5 out of 10 sets of lights did exactly this to me last night btw.

Gaskets are being strained to the absolute limit.

Thank goodness my car has Stop and Start feature.

Queensferry by pass where it joins the A550 Welsh Road going towards Wirral and Two Mills anyone?

Someone has changed the night time setting on these lights RECENTLY, that merely control a cycle and pedestrian crossing, which see's barely any useage during the daytime, never mind 11 pm at night, as it's out in the wilds.

If there's no traffic in front of you, they now ALWAYS turn to red a good quarter of a mile before you reach them, and as you come grinding to yet another time and fuel wasting halt....then they turn instantly back to green!

WHY?  :@

Absolutely no safety issues here at all.

Tell you, it IS a conspiracy.I'm convinced of it.

I completely understand where your coming from with this one mate, I often leave the house at 5am (4:30am today).

There is nobody on the road, as far as the eyes can see.

They ALWAYS change on me, I can honestly hear them laughing at the fact they've stopped the only car to go past in probably 30mins.

Then like you say as soon as you come to a complete stop, it's back instantly to green arrggghh!

I've noticed this too.  There are certain lights that I rarely go through on green and the night time theory you have seems to affect three sets of lights I am aware of too.  When  you have a car like mine that likes a bit of fuel, the need to keep rolling becomes more important.  Red is bad, green is good.

I'm not cross about it though.  I had my rant in another thread so I'm all calm again. :D

We need some serious answers on this, and I mean it.

Getting very seriously hacked off about it.

It can't be a safety issue, so it's got to be yet another revenue grabbing scam courtesy of HMRC

I cannot think of any other reason.

Think about it for a moment.

An extra say.... 2mpg of fuel useage loss multiplied by 30 million cars is a LOT of extra dosh in their fat greedy coffers.

Why should we all be denied the freedom to drive constantly at the speed limit making good progress, and economically?

'THEY' go on, telling us to conserve our valuable resources, and yet they pull a stunt like this on us!

Bloody laughable...almost.

I only have 2 sets of lights going to work and I leave at 4am. Thankfully for now the first set is giving priority to the main road so that's always green by default. The second set are just temporary and are often red as I approach then change as I get there.

There are several long straight roads in London where you will be caught at every single set of lights. Why the feck has someone not worked it out so that it can be driven in one go? The timing wouldn't be that difficult to get right and would ensure fuel efficiency!

Traffic lights at Goredale nursery?

I've mentioned it before, and was the subject of one of my emails to Cheshire west Council.

These lights are ONLY there for the traffic management of the extremely busy and popular nursery and fuel station during the daytime and opening hours, and FULLY justified.

At midnight however, the place is fully closed, gates locked, dead. So WHY do they change to red as you approach them, and then change back to green as you stop?

It's a straight stretch of dual carriageway.

The reply I received from the council was a totally baffling .....'traffic flow management'

Please explain to this obvious numpty, what exactly that means please?

They're not even speed sensitive.

I did wonder if your approach speed had something to do with it, so I've tried 10 mph above, and 10 mph below on approach (when quiet) as an experiment on some of these offending lights, and it makes diddly squat of a difference

There is no traffic to flow manage?

Its just one car. One car, is not a 'flow'.

Iv had this before too. Its bloody annoying. Losing minutes of progress youve just made up on empty roads.

Try stopping further back up the road. See if it does actually just wait for a stop or they change too slowly

Can't win with these greedy pigs in power.

They spout on and on and on about us packing in the snouts.

So. two million have and started using E CIgs instead.

Now they're obviously not happy because of the dramatic drop in ciggy sales and loss of revenue, so they're going to start taxing them from 2016 apparently, and make them harder to purchase.

Same with fuel duty.

Cars are becoming increasingly more efficient leading to massive drops in revenue for them, so, this is how they can claw some of it back, bunch of two faced hypocritical *******s.

I've been getting wound up by this for years.

Common sense would dictate that after 11pm all traffic lights should default to a permanent amber and be treated as a give way junction. It would keep things flowing and probably safer.

The yanks have a good idea by letting road users turn right on a red light if it's clear to give way. Obviously that would be left in the UK.

That'd be too easy for these numbskulls in power to comprehend. :dull:

Can't be making us all too relaxed pleased and happy at the  common sense in that now, can they?  :swear:

Glad it's not just me being my usual grumpy cynical self.

I sadly admit to shouting and swearing at them now.

The natives are getting restless.

We need some anarchy and a traffic light revolution.

Have you been had by those lights at the top of Mold, just after you turn right on the roundabout past the Shell, the ones down in the dip with the pub on left (crossroads) always turn to read when I approach with no traffic from other directions. Exactly the same on the next set about a mile up the road always turn to red for no traffic to come from other directions! Super annoying at night time when they are worst!

And they always changed back to green once you have just come to a halt!

Don't emergency services have some sort of 'zapper' to change the lights to green? :notme:

think I'll just go and do a search on flea bay.  :coffee:

Being a regular up Moel Famau, I travel that route regularly and know EXACTLY where you mean, and share your extreme annoyance.

These are the sets of lights that i wrote a second email  to Clwyd Council about.

The guy responded initially, and suggested that it sounded like a fault and would get back to me.

That was 9 months ago, and am still waiting for a positive or otherwise reply of ANY sort.

There are a few here that are annoying. We do have a couple of sets that go red on approach but there was a couple that were only going green for a couple of seconds, you could only get 2 buses through where as before you could get at least 4 or 5. Eventually I told one of our road safety reps and they got management to contact council. Took a few months but they did eventually sort it.

Ey Dan, on a more positive note, have you seen the  'peak time only' lights they've now installed at the busy roundabout where you come off the Queensferry by pass for Queensferry?

Nice to see a bit of common sense has prevailed on that one, and they are a BIG help at busy times.

I'm as quick to congratulate and praise  as i am to criticism for those that probably just see me as being a nark btw.

Don't go that way very often Mr Ree so not seen those, normally only head that was to jump on the M56 or head over to Cheshire Oaks for the cinema since the one in Chester has been knocked down. Such a pain really heading to Chester was only about a 10 minute drive from Mold handy when bored on a Wednesday evening with Orange Wednesdays.

Shamelessly off topic, but it's MY thread, and yes, like we needed yet ANOTHER supermarket ey?  :dull:

Chester has the grand total of NO cinemas now.

Not bad for a touristy large city ey?

Even more off topic....Llanerch Park St Asaph classic car show tomoz btw.  :sun:

Are you off to that show?

I'm thinking of heading to the national meet tomorrow. Either that or USC (Santa Pod) still haven't decided!
