Vrs rattle

Featured Replies

Seem to have a vibration/rattle in the cabin moving and stationary. Normally occurs around 2000rpm (v noticeable when decelerating)goes awayon higher revs. Think it may be the drivers door or window or something related. Doesn't do it when window all the way down or door open. Any ideas/similar experiences? Free to investigate/sort under warranty?

I think a few have mentioned a noise around the drivers side B Pillar area, mine does it too, sounds more like a loose door internal than anything.

Will get my dealer to take a look as soon as I can because it is a bit annoying.

I also have a problem with a knocking noise in neutral. Has been investigated before and diagnosed as 'noise is from gearbox - is input shaft idling - this is quite normal'. Well I've never known another car do it - wondered if this may be linked to original post issue? thoughts? Or if not perhaps linked to bloody soundaktor - vibration issue? Thoughts?

My VRS has also developed a resonance/rattle which seems to come from somewhere around the B-pillar area. The resonance also occurs at about 2000 rpm during both acceleration and deceleration. It isn't very loud but it's irritating. Did anyone find a solution for this?

Haven't been to the dealer yet.

I had this. It stopped when I unplugged the sound generator.

I set the sound generator volume to zero some time ago using VCDS. The resonance at 2000 rpm has developed subsequently (a few months later).

My 2013 petrol Vrs DSG estate, now with ca. 7k miles, suffered from this; an annoying, intermittent, low amplitude rattle/buzz from seemingly low down in the o/s B pillar area. It would only ever occur with engine at 1900 rpm or so and seemed to be independent of gear in use. The car is not fitted with a sound generator, hurrah. My perception was that the noise had become slightly louder and that it occurred a little more frequently in recent months than it had done initially, so much so that I mentioned it to the supplying dealer when it was in their workshop on an unrelated matter.

Dealer v. understanding and has just fixed at second attempt (fingers crossed). Service rep. informed me that the technician removed the undertray(s?) and found a possible heat shield clearance issue and also fuel lines that were vibrating against part of the box section through which they were routed and thus required a little packing (I'm paraphrasing here from memory but it was something along these lines). I test drove the car as soon as it was delivered back to me, buzz still very much evident, garage v apologetic, car immediately collected and they had another go at it, doing much the same sort of work apparently but this time (after a week anyway) the buzz has not resurfaced. Hth.

my vrs used to have a rattle /ressonance from the passenger area b post, went away when the noise generator was turned down to 50%

Thanks for that. I hadn't previously considered the possibility that the resonance might be from something external to the cabin. I thought it was from the inside, but these things are very difficult to pin-point. It sounds like I might just (reluctantly) have to let the dealer have a look at it.

This almost perfectly describes my issue too. Noise is 1900-2200rpm regardless of gear (mine's a manual vRS, but I've confirmed it's independent of the windscreen resonator), and is substantially worse when it's cold outside. Which suggests it relates to something that warms up.

I propped mine up on a jack (need to get some axle stands) and poked and prodded at the heat shield/undertray area beneath the driver; they've got these weird one-way clips but all seemed in place; I am pretty much convinced there's something buzzing under there. At one point I packed some vulcanised rubber I had I think between the heat shield and the body which definitely reduced how often the buzz showed up, but of course, the next time I had it serviced and mentioned that there was a buzz which I suspected was the heat shield, the mechanic cleared that out and checked all the clips...and the buzz returned.

So, next step for me is to buy some axle stands, possibly a hydraulic jack, and some more vulcanised rubber, which I'll wrap in some tin foil and pack out the heat shield with; and with thanks to your input, I'll check the various lines going nearby as well. And then I won't mention it to the mechanic. Or I will, and tell him to leave it.

Anyway, I DO need to make sure this packing work doesn't result in anything melting, particularly on to anything hot, as I generally prefer my car not on fire, but let's see what we can learn.
