engine overheating part 2

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I already posted this topic in order to find solutions. here is a brief memo:

I changed thermostat and coolant but my temperatrure gauge shows 105 degrees when fan kicks in.

Now, you gave me a lot of useful advices but in order to spare myself on costs I first used laser thermometer on engine head and block as well as on the coolant hoses.

The result was that everywhere temperature was 93 when coolant kicks in but my temp gaguge still shows 105 degrees.

so what could be the problem what gives me a false readings?

Also the temperature on the engine block was 130 degress (celsisu) is that ok?

if you have a car with carburetor the temperature sender must have a yellow collar.

if you have a car with injection the temperature sender must have a blue collar.

they have different thermistors inside because temperature gauges are also different for carburetor and injection respectively.

any mix of senders and gauges results in erroneous readings.

thanks for the reply.

Could you please be more specific since I don't understand. At the picture fan kicks in where you have painted red line and the gauge stays there.

Could you please explain it one more time?

when the car idles for instance at red lights in hot weather, coolant temperature raises up to 100 C.

I painted a red line just to show you the approximate position of needle when temp. is 100 C.

at that moment, radiator fan kicks in and runs till temp. drops to 90 C.

that is correct and my skoda also did that but from now the working temperaure is 100 degrees and it never cools it to 90.

what voltage you have on battery at 2000 rpm?
