1st. Skoda, GULP !

Featured Replies

I've bitten the bullet and I'm picking my new Skoda company car up on Thursday.

My previous car was a Volvo V70 and now with numerous ribbing from my work colleagues I've decided to opt for a Superb 170 SE Estate. But hey at least it's £80 per month under budget (which I get back in my pocket).

I hope I don't regret my choice lol!

Minus tax

You wont regret it. We have Volvo XC70s in work and I hate them. It's so nice at the end of my shift to jump into my Superb for the drive home.

I don't think regret is going to feature largely in this story.

Agree with the above... after 14 years owning different versions of SEAT, the last one being a 2011 Seat Exeo Sport Tech 170, I though that was the best car I had owned and driven, how wrong could I be... The Superb is one hell of a car! you WILL NOT regret it..

Thanks for the above comments, I must admit that mine and my girlfriends initial impression in the car showroom was "Hey this ain't too bad" and I was amazed with the shear size and build quality !!

Agreed on the above. Had 1 previous Skoda now have 2 at the moment. Next car will be another Skoda and more than likely a Superb estate, this will replace the Octavia. Big car luxury without spending silly money.

Borrowed on 24 hour test drive a Superb Estate 170CR diesel DSG L & K model. Only find one fault, was not a fan of the white colour with beige interior, may suit some people just not with youngish children.

Did 200 miles in 24 hours and it was perfect. You won't regret your choice.

My L&K is one month old today! Apart from a slight pulling to the left that was eventually sorted with new front tires, it is a fantastic car !!!

(i have 5,500 kms on it in a month) :)

I swapped my Merc E class for the Superb and love it. I drove a few Volvos and the ride and drive just dont compare to the Superb IMHO, if you get the right spec.

Enjoy it!

Oops, just looked at my paperwork and it appears as though I'm getting the Elegance model NOT SE lol!

Thursday lunchtime I reckon your colleagues will be eating humble pie. Happened to me when I bought my elegance estate - Audi driving boss made the predictable jibes. Wasn't so smug when he sat in it though.

A nice bonus then! Well you won't be disappointed with the level of spec on the elegance. Don't think you'll be regretting too much about the Skoda!

Having not owned a Volvo yet (nearly an S80 a year ago though) I don't think you will miss it tbh, let the laughers laugh just be sure to mention how handy the extra £80 is and how much less fuel it uses, you have the estate so they can't even say how ugly it is because the estate doesn't suffer ugly unbalanced bum syndrome like the saloon does,

I'll bet within a few months you'll be getting asked......"can I have a sit in it" by the laughers followed by " oooh it's quite nice isn't it" followed by "how much less tax is it?" topped off with " I think I'll get one of these"

Have no fear. You've made a good choice. I'm in Australia and I have a 2013 Skoda Superb with everything. Skoda's are not that common in Australia. Being such a big country, General Motors, Chrysler  and Ford seem to be the pick of most Aussie's. Our streets are full of Vauxhall VXR8 type vehicles. (Built here in Australia and known as the Holden Commodore). But those who know the true value call these cars "Common Door"  (They are a dime a dozen at any wreaking yard where you'll find them stacked up quietly rusting away)

But I like to stand out from the crowd. My mates give me a ribbing I tell you. You've got to understand that Skoda is rare here in Australia. Some dealers have already closed and I can think of three dealers that have folded in the last two years.  It's only been back in this country for 5 years after being absent for more than 30 years. And most Australians didn't have anything much to say about the early model Skoda's other than they were trash. My own work colleagues dish out more Skoda jokes than I care to remember. I've heard them all....well most of them.

But the jokes on them when they sit in it and realise it's an Audi without paying for an Audi. They look at the quality finish and it's fantastic value for money. My own boss has just purchased an Octavia for his wife.

I've removed the old style badges off my car and replaced them with the newer style badge. It doesn't say "Skoda" on the new badge. I quite often have people stop me and ask me "What type of car is that mate?" and I reply..."It's not a common door....it's a little bit of European class"

Keep it serviced, keep it washed and clean and It will give you many years of great motoring service. It is after all...Skoda is the third oldest car manufacturer in the world. (enclosed is a photo of mine)

@ Shakey,

Love that Common Door jibe, over here it's the VXR8 and it's quite some car other than a 6.0L engine that gets taxed to the hilt and does 9mpg at best, still a class car though, but I did like the jibe regardless,

You should play with the askers and tell them it's the new Ferrari Stationwagon and that it's one of only 20 in Aus right now as you are a tester for Ferarri and they are making sure it can do hostile terrain before it's proper launch,

In a testorone loaded country like yours the 2.0 won't appeal much but a 3.6 4X4 should be just the ticket tbh.

Ooooh Holden! Would love to replace my current weekend play car (MK1 Sierra Cosworth) with one !!

On the QT I'm a boy racer and yes my mates will no doubt rib me when I rock up at an RS Owners meet in the Superb lol !!

2.0 Litres are now slipping in as fuel is becoming quite expensive. The VXR8 is still being built over here and it's the last ever Holden commodore to be made in Australia. Ford who produces the Ford Falcon (5.8 Litre V8) is also stopping manufacturing of cars here in Australia. Ford has just released it's last V8 ute and Holden is looking at producing the last Holden Commodore Ute (Vxr8) which will be a 6.2 Litre and will give a Porsche a run for it's money.

My last car was a Subaru Legacy Spec B wagon. Hung on like baby spew on a blanket. Went like stink. But happy with the Diesel and getting good MPG.

I lived in Brisbane for a few years and used to love the sounds of the V8 burble especially if they were giving it the beans. They were quite common, whereas here, anything above 4cyl & 2.0l is quite rare and a petrol > 2.0l even rarer still.

Same story here. Had V70 as company car (D5 remaped by Polestar 225HP/460Nm). Went to Superb 170 Hp / 350 Nm 4x4 DSG. Not a single regret. I do not like Volvo steering at all, no road feel whatsoever. And no space in the back. And in case of Skoda - I was positively surprised how well DSG work with less powerful engine - I did not felt such significant performance loss, as if it looks on paper comparing stats of the both cars.

Excellent choice, it will for sure put a smile on your face.
