Confused.....

Featured Replies

I have a Black Magic Fabia, and I'm after a bit of advice.

Last weekend I went over my car with a Farcela G3 Clay Mitt, and it's removed all of the contaminates and made the paint smooth as glass.

Unfortunately, it's also now highlighted all of the swirl marks all over the paint work.

I live in a house with parking on street, so no drive, no hose etc. I can take a trip to the outlaws and use their drive and outside tap, however it's not something I want to do every weekend.

My current wash method is Autoglym bodywork shampoo in a bucket with a noodle wash mitt. As I live in a hard water area, to stop the water marks I then use a detailing spray and a polishing cloth to buff. If the car is really filthy I take it to the local hand car wash place as  they jet wash and snow foam it.

I don't have a massive amount of spare time, or cash, but I want to get it looking at least acceptable. I also don't have any polishing machines.

My plan is as follows:

Clay mitt

Rinse wash with shampoo and then dry with microfibre towel

PoorBoys Black Hole (by hand)

HydrO2 sealant.

Then Gtechniq G1 sealant on the glass.

Having never used anything like a glaze and a sealant, how difficult is black hole to apply by hand and get a decent result?

Will HydrO2 protect the glaze, or is it better to go with a synthetic wax?

Hopefully once applied, it will be much easier to keep on top of without spending an absolute age and fortune.

If you already have those products, then fair enough...I suggest you wait for advice from those who know about such things.

If, on the other hand, you do not, you might consider a waterless regime. Something like `Greased Lightning Showroom Shine.

I know the experts on here poo-poo it, but in your situation it might be worth a try. I rate it.

Regards

Mike.

I've not yet bought the black hole, hydro2 or G1 sealant.

I have the Poorboy's White Diamond Glaze which is virtually the same products just for lighter coloured Cars. In very easy to apply, just apply it with a foam pad (at least that's what it says on my bottle) allow it to dry to a haze, about 5-10 mins then Buff off with a clean Micro Fibre Towel. Easy as that.

As for the Sealant you'll have to ask someone who is used to applying sealant. Does the packaging not say anything? If not try the Clean your Car Forum, they are a nice friendly bunch of lads who will be able to point you in the right direction.

I have used black hole, very good but.......

Your just masking the marks. My wife's black fiesta has the same issue . Black hole hides it , my next step is to have the paint corrected then look after it a lot better. Think you would be better of getting it corrected then keeping it maintained with something like Sonax bsd

You have a choice in that you can use pb black hole to mask the swirls or get it machine polished to remove them as above. In your situation I'd use the 2 bucket method and a decent car shampoo lime autoglym shampoo and conditioner with at least 1 grit guard in the rinse bucket to wash your car to stop the swirls getting worse (maybe use a watering can to wet/rinse when at home?) You will probably need to empty your rinse bucket more often too because you don't have a hose/jetwash. As far as prep is concerned if your budget can stretch to it afer an initial wash and rinse some ironx to get rid of the ferrous particles on your car followed by a rinse dry and wipe over with tardis to get rid of any tar plus a final wash off with a detox shampoo and dry would get you paint something like ready without going to what some would call excessive lengths. A coat of black hole followed by poorboys ex p sealant would both help mask the swirls and add a sealant. Top it up every other wash with something like sonax bsd and that should last at least 6 months. With no access to a hose/jetwash the 2bm becomes even more important at you can't blast a load of the crud off to start with. Personally I'd only use the noodle on the sills and wheels. For the rest I'd get a lanbswool dooka wash pad which is by far the best I've ever used-much better than any other microfibre mit IMO. I can spend more of your money on a DA and paint prep stuff if you wish!

If you want a hand with this I am just down the road....

If you want to go it alone I would vote to go something like AG SRP or Auto Finesse Tripple followed by a wax on top which should help mask the swirls. I personally wouldn't bother with black hole.

Also I would advise to use Gtechniq G5 on your glass if you haven't applied G1 before. There is a lot of prep work and the glass needs to be polished with a machine ideally to get the best bond for the coating. G5 is much more user friendly and easy to apply, lasts a good few months too.

I'm not particularly bothered what products I use, just so long as they're...reasonably priced, relatively easy to apply, and is going to be durable.

A hand may be very useful :) Where are you located?

I'm only in Nottingham mate so not too far at all.

I use blackhole topped with poorboys ex-p sealent. Im lucky to have access to a jetwash and snowfoam. Heres the results of my efforts

^^^ That looks a pukka job. I'll have to post some pics of mine when I applied the White Diamond Glaze topped with Collinite 476s.

I'm guessing you're nowhere near lowestoft?

Not too keen on black hole as it only fills swirls etc. prefer to permanently remove them. Will look 10x better though
