Dan's Ibiza 1.8T 20vT Track Car WIP

Featured Replies

All that shizzle is coming off the Ibiza :)

Along with the entire front as no doubt its going to be in better condition than the Fabia I buy (minus the rack probably...).

It's a direct swap? You lucky bu66er I'm going to have to get a crashed vRS most likely

  • Even more broken now...

  • Ok go on then! I'll sort payment soon (and collection!)!

  • Well, its arrived. So I have a working car and it has a 1.8T in it... that puts me ahead of Toxic surly :P   Quite tidy being low miles, bit of a polish and it would look ok. But its RED, one of the

Yeah it is.

Standard brakes are 232 iirc on the rear... good enough.

If you were going for 256 or what ever the upgraded size is then you just need some stub axels from a disc equipped Fabia/Ibiza/Polo don't you? Opens it up a little as I know even PD100 Ibizas had rear discs. DYOR mind you :P

Yeah amazing the things that can interchange and that were missing in the first place IMO.

Nope! Been through this with the Skoda Guru who has told me I need another rear beam and ancillaries where mine was drums!

So glad I don't have to source all the bits myself... just the hassle of selling the bits I don't need instead  :dull:

That is the advantage of doing the swap with a full donor :) you'll find there's bits with a fair value and then bits with none that you can't shift like I have so far!

I suspect many bits will end up down the tip :)

Already sold a few bits I didn't advertise and had planned to tip which is pleasant.

I tried listing bits individually but you are probably best off doing a classified ad on ebay saying breaking message for parts

Nice to see how it's going Dan.

Ibiza 1.8t was (IMO) a good choice for a Fabia if that's your plan.

So much can be swapped between the cars. :)

I might have to look for another! :D

It does seem the best method as I've found out!

It has to be.

Same platform, same track width etc...

Exactly why I bought that in the first place.

Not sure selling it was a good idea.

Be great to see another 1.8t Fabia out on track though, they are seriously quick!

Especially in estate form

I really can't be arsed dealing with the esquires, moaning about prices etc. I'll just list the 'money' bits and if the buyers of those want little bits, I'll sell them.

Yep that's the plan! Will be more Ibiza than Fabia in the end. May have to stick the FR badge on it :)

Mines not going to be in the same league as Ben's though :(

Is the rear beam different on the Fabia estate to Hatchback?

I'm hoping not.  :notme:

May not be an estate now... we'll see. Guy wouldn't move on the price of the orange one.

There's a couple of spares / repairs ones on ebay or try copart as I think the estate would be even more suprising!

Yeah I'm hoping one will come up local, otherwise by the time you add transport you can get one with 12months MOT for the same price near enough.

Really need to stop looking until I'm rid of the Ibiza shell though :)

How about another cat D

How about another cat D

Issue with a Cat D, or any car without an MOT, is that I wouldn't be able to do a road test before taking it to the test. I doubt many people can do this much work on a car and not come back from the first road test with a few snags.

Also I was planning to remove the SAI etc before the engine goes back in, so the dash will (possibly... seems the resistors only work 90% of the time) be lit up like a Christmas tree until I can get it mapped. And before I get it mapped I need someone to build an exhaust. And before I drive any distance it needs to be aligned.

I suppose I could put it through the MOT before the swap, but if it fails on emissions because the engine/cat is knacked, there is no way I can get around that. And messing around with retests etc means more cash spent on day insurance etc.

So much easier to buy a £400-500 car with 12months on it (one sold in Bham recently for £400), even if its highly likely the MOT is slightly dodgy :)

Buy a Fabia 1.2 with MOT until may ;) ;) ;):notme:

Is it still a 1.2 if the engine is missing?

Forgot that

Just a disclaimer to the mods! I was only joking!

One peculiar thing I noticed yesterday on the Ibiza...

It had 2 very new looking RainSport 2 tyres on the front (one dead due to the impact), however the passenger one that is intact is running in the wrong direction. Will have to dig out the dead one and see how that would have been running... if they were really new I wonder if the lady who owned the car would have had a case against the muppets who fitted them?

Well we're back here!

After a brief flirtation with Fabia estates for some reason...

I have an Ibiza (and not just one to take apart... well actually, stage 1 is to take it apart!).

Plan is quite simple. Take the running gear originally taken from the Ibiza at the start of this thread, out of the Fabia and put it back in to a different Ibiza, after stripping everything unnecessary (well, except the stereo, heater and maybe some of the dash) and use it as a fun/weekend car as I now have a sensible daily. Unfortunately, the damn things RED!

Oh and to summarise for those who didn't follow my Fabia, the starting spec for the Ibiza will be:

20v 1.8T Engine with stage 2 map (~230bhp)

5 speed box with wavetrac LSD

FMIC

2.5" stainless exhaust with sports cat

AP Coilovers

Full Superpro poly bushes

Wilwood Dynalite 4pots on 288mm discs

Several sets of Team Dynamics 15" wheels with various tyre setups (road, semi slick, race wets...)

256mm rear brakes

Corbeau Clubsport drivers seat (really want another for the passenger!)

It's a fun setup in a Fabia, I'm hoping by shedding some weight it will be a bit quicker and less harsh on the brake pads! Will be weighing the Fabia shortly, and will weight the Ibiza once its done to see how much of a difference it makes :)

To be continued...
