shark or revo map?

Featured Replies

I currently have a stage 1 shark map on my vrs and want to go stage 2. The car has everything needed but I cant find a shark mapper anywhere near me so popped to my local vag specialist who deals with revo. To cut a long story short, I got a deal with them to take mine from 0 to stage 2 on revo and a stage 1 on the wifes fabia vrs se for £550. I have the original ecu for my octy so I can sell on the stage 1 ecu currently in it to claw back a bit of money but jyst wanted a few opinions of revo maps. Tia.

How about using Shark's STS unit so that you can load the maps yourself? I'm not 100% whether you'll need a unit for each vehicle, but I'm sure Ben can explain it all and work something out for you if you did need two units.

I currently have a revo stage 1 remap on my mk1 octy pd150 rep and well let me tell you it's a great map if your getting a stage 2 for the vrs and a stage 1 for the furby  stage 2 is expensive so i wouls say your getting an alright deal but not the best, you might be able to haggle a bit more, but a stage 2 is like £360+vat and a stage 1 £299+ vat roughly

I'm running a revo stage one map on my octy vrs. I couldn't recommend them enough! A superior map.

I have had both REVO stage 1 and stage 2 and now have Shark map on my Octy VRS.

A REVO stage 1 ain't superior over a Shark map IMO.

What I will say is as you have a Shark stage 1 why not get a shark stage 2 as that should be a much cheaper mapping as you already have the Shark software.

for example when i went from REVO stage 1 to stage 2 it only cost me £50.

IMO REVO mapping is not as good as Shark and Shark is probably not as good as R-Tech.

REVO mapping tends to be a very quick power band verses the Shark being more across the Rev range giving you a feeling of better overall power..

I have a Shark STS box that i will sell if anyone interested. You can then get maps send to and from Shark direct.

Also i am not sure ECU are plug and play with REVO software installed although could be wrong

The other thing i don't like about REVO software is they can not map out any codes or deletes like SAI, N112, N249 etc like Shark can. That was a big plus on Shark for me.

Here my view

I furking hate my revo 2

Against my old apr 2

I find it

Laggy and lacking off the mark

Up top it goes well

But somethings missing

Its like its got a brief fail safe

"Have it car let go"

Instead of "bwaaaaaaaaagh hulk"

You get "r u sure ? Ok let go"

Patooey revo 2

Ur 1.8t stuff need a facelift :(

I just got back from having a turbo back exhaust and stage 2 revo

Im like, holy feck this feels rapid lol

I start4d with 195 at the rollers to which was a suprise, got to 221 and im told this will increase a bit over the coming days and if i pit better fuel in, i was hoping for 230 but maybe i need a couple more mods

Just shows correct setups work wonders some stage 2 from Rtech etc running 250+

Are they reliable though? How do they get them that high?

Pm'd Bowders.

Power through timing rather than piling too much boost into the engine. Niki at R-tech will not overstress any car that he maps.

It's all about flow

You get the correct setup he can extract the power he only maps 1.8t and 2.0t so over the years has been able to really make the most from these ecu

He truly custom maps the cars but again it's all down to flow

And let's remeber boost doesn't = power

He has been extracting more power with less boost ;-)

It's not all about the numbers though, a well done progressive map giving 220 bhp will cause less stresses and potential failure than a peaky 240 'nothing nothing nothing TORQUE SPIKE' map (that will probably 'feel' quicker but usually isn't.

Shark maps are well known for smooth, progressive reliable power delivery.

R tech have a very good reputation but as i have not used them i will refrain from comment.

Thanks all for the info, looks like I'll be doing a shark stage 2 through the STS system. I'm very happy with the shark stage 1 so I'll stay with them. Plus as previously said I can get errors mapped out.

But the point is people like nick can get more power with less boost ;-)

Only people I will use is Rtech or shark simple as that

I take it all back

Just had a go on badger bills rollers

He just ran 234.5bhp and 262lbs

( goes of to update build )

But good figures are hardly going to make it drive any nicer, you still have:

Personally I couldn’t give a stuff what the figures are as they are only useful down the pub, it’s all down to how it drives!

Exactly! It wants a nice smooth curve with usable power throughout the rev range!

Great thread this. Ive been thinking about going to Broteck near Edinburgh who do shark maps. I'd love to vist R tech but its a fair old treck for me. I think I've made up my mind!!

Put my stuff up in my build :)

Ha ha drives alot nicer when your not thinking ur car is ****ed :D

.

Sort of like how a PD diesel delivers its punch. Feels very quick but isnt

Hehe check boosts leaks before u get a rat on at your car :D

Sorry car :(

That your way of making out revo is now great lol

Not great :D

It seems it works tho

All said n done if was starting out id get bill to map it as he is 30 miles away

If was near niki id have him to do it

Would defo go full custom tho

Mines got **** on it that has prob pushed it up, and as u said , its done no miles which seems to have favoured it :D
