Yeti diesel engine oil extreme temperatures

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Yet another reason to be pleased and confident about our Yetis.

I live in a really hot part of the world. In the area I live in temperatures rarely drop below 40 degrees celsius all July and August.I took this shot to show you how well the Yeti engine oil holds its temperature without soaring upwards even on an extremely hot day.I took the picture just before turning off the engine reaching home, after a 30 minute drive on level roads, driving at a speed of 60-70 km per hour. The ambient temp was 39.5 degs as you can see.The engine oil only reached 97 degs!

Even pushed uphill on a hot day here I do not recall the temp ever rising over 105.

Hi I'm an Aussie,

Your Temps relate to my normal operating Temps (Even in current Cold Winter Temps- 5/8 degrees).

My average temp is 90 degrees, and after 35' KMP it rarey moves.

There you are.

Another positive testimony from a hot summer Yeti driver.

I wouldn't worry about those temps, that is nothing other than normal.

I drive an Octy 3 vRS with the same 2.0TDi engine and I have seen 127*C on mine while pushing 140mph /235kph on the autobahn in both18-30*C weather.

If I slow back down to 100mph the temps fall pretty quickly and I always ensure that after a prolonged blast at speed the engine oil temps are back under 100*C before I switch off. That normally means a gentle drive from autobahn to house which allows the engine core to cool sufficiently so it doesn't boil the oil after I switch off.

It's completely normal, just let the engine recover after normal motorway driving as even that can raise the temp to 110*C.
