Featured Replies

sat at dealers awaiting Service and MOT results... octavia vrs 61 Reg 23,000 miles....

No known issues or problems... So why this feeling ..lol

Is it just Me, whenever I have a car in for MOT i always dread the result.... Even though the cars are always fine... I look after them and they are not old.....

And I can not remember the last time I had an MOT fail. So why the same old feeling.....

Ah well..... Not long :-)

Ive had my 35 year old mini & my 24 year old peugeot in for mot over the last 2 weeks & even though im a mechanic & have looked them over i still get that nervous feeling are they going to pass!  :D My octavia is due in a couple of weeks so best have a look at it.

Good to see alls well,

A Nail in a tyre, but thats it for another year

Id have expected a 61 to pass,my octavia is 6 years old & has passed its last 3 mot's with no problems.......great cars!.

I know what you mean.

Even though you know everything is spot on, you still get a little weird feeling about it.

Strange isnt it.

Got my first one October...nervous times haha.

I'd ask for the tyre code to be put on the cert. Then take tyre off and check. I had this with one place and although there was no nail in tyre on car ,there was a screw in the spare . problem is that spare was one off rear when I had new tyres and was checked during fitting, and carried to car ,and never came out of boot.

Mine was still passing without advisories at 7yr so you've nothing to worry about

Mine would have past first time if I hadn't forgotten to take the show plates off!! But yes, every time the car goes in for an MOT I dread it!

waiting on mot/nct result is like waiting for driving test result..... I think i did alright, should be fine but...... The doubt. My octy failed its last nct 2yrs ago because my indicator bulbs werent orange enough...

Really?

See, if was an MOT guy, is just pop a bulb in for you. Itd take 30 seconds. I know its strictly not right, but i cant see the point in failing a car for such an easy fix

Mines repaired a washer motor wire before now for me

Nice man!

My brothers old car failed on washer jets. The dealer then took 2 seconds to clean it out with compressed air, did a retest and charged him for 2 tests.

Nice one i thought, as i told him what a bellend he has been.

Never been back there.

(Same dealer that told me changing the steering weight in my fabia would disable the air bags. Chump).

Yeah! Went up with my dad in the MG and the number plate lights weren't working so he said were they working before? Try and fiddle with the connection in the boot you thought was loose and get it to work then I'll pass it :)

My classics basically always fail on something, mainly because the tester doesn't like them. The most recent one a few weeks ago failed because two of the nyloc nuts that hold the upper wishbone arms "weren't working." (The thread wasn't all the way through the nylon) My argument that the front suspension had just been fully overhauled including new nylock and fulcrum arms (not bolts, so I couldn't use longer bolts)

He was happy for me to cut down the nuts to make them thinner though :o

I did that for the retest then put new nuts on along with some thread lock.

In fairness, they always let me adjust the headlamps as they're always out when I've adjusted the suspension.

I have a feeling that adjusting the headlights is the one thing the tester can do during the test.

So why do you keep taking the cars to him?

my 11 year old firby's passed every time except once because a fog light was blown

Waiting for the results?

At my local MOT station I'm sat in the car, driving it onto the ramps and operating all the lights and wipers etc. I even have to apply the foot and hand brakes on the rollers!

It's also a great opportunity to take a good look underneath the car whilst chatting to the tester.

I do the same but i know the testers & have done for years...........a lot of garages inc dealers wont let you,you have to wait in the mot viewing area.

cant quote on phone.. The nct centres will do NOTHING. Other than pass or fail... Usually finding something to at least cause a retest...

So why do you keep taking the cars to him?

Because the only other local station will pass ANYTHING and I'd rather have a safe car fail than an unsafe car pass
