Agonising over remap

Featured Replies

I am booked in with angel remaps for my vRS CR 170. Now I am not a mechanical person but I do like to drive hard (not off the line), I am concerned something big is going to blow following the remap, it would only take it to 210bhp which I assume is OK as it's less than the other tuners, my car is in good nick and is at 34k miles but I am still left wondering about the odds??

Can anyone allay my fears??

Many thanks

J

More likely take it to 210bhp if you're very lucky!

Some places seem to pluck figures out of the air for their maps and some people think that's all there is to it. I'd personally prefer a lower output with a smooth curve. If you're worried about the map that's being put on then do a search but in general there should be nothing to cause you concern.

Can I ask why you are going with angel tuning?

Was it price? I had an Angel map on a 130tdi and yes it had buckets of torque but smoked badly and didn't make quoted BHP .It also ran alot of boost .

I had other problems with the clutch then the gearbox blowing due to the aggressive torque profile. That was a few years ago now and im sure they have better maps now but thought I would share my experience.

Mapped by shark at 6K miles, now on 90K and running sweet as a nut..... bring on the next 90!

Shark mapped mine to 212bhp and 335 torque.

Mikejay, how do you find the remap? Been tyre kicking one of mine for few months now.. How does it feel on the road.. Big improvement?

Really sorry mate for the late reply. Not been on in ages. You probably have had it done now. It drives a load like a petrol now. You can hold it in first longer and it revs freely. I did a review on it when i had it done. Ill try and post a link

My 1.9pd is now showing 110,000 miles.

Shark tune. Builds the power in a very linear fashion. smooth, quiet, smoke free, progressive, powerful, reliable and easy to trickle around in traffic. Also more economical in traffic/cruising mode. Hit the loud pedal and it goes, very satisfying. Overtakes are much safer as you are past quicker, and on the wrong side for less.

Its off next week to thrash down the Autobahn to my sisters in Germany and then storm across the Alps, probably several times. It does this several times a year.

Usually there is a load of camping clobber for a month or two, and as much wine as we can fit in/are stupid enough to buy. Max so far is 30 cases. This time there will be 4 in the car, with luggage.

The wine cellar still is mostly full, but we're working on that.

The car works for its living.

A good read
