High rear LED brake light Octavia Combi (2006) - tried everything ?

Featured Replies

I've trawled the forums and read all the posts on the high brake issue but my high brake LED does not light up when the brake pedal is pressed:

- Right and Left rear brake are work

- All other lights and wiper are working fine

- Rear washer Jet works as expected

- Junction box near CD changer seems clear of leaks from washer hose and there are no obvious signs of corrosion.

As my MOT is due in two weeks, I ordered a replacement LED unit as the other posts seemed to suggest this was likely to be the issue.

I don't have a multimeter so haven't been able to check the voltage to the connector but it didn't look corroded when I replaced the unit.

Is there a separate fuse for the High Level LED unit. I couldn't see one listed in the handbook?

Can anyone suggest anything else I haven't tried or should I get myself prepared for an expensive trip to Skoda ?

Sounds like you have read up on the subject well, the first piece of advice is always to check for water leaks from a blocked or failed rear washer jet.

I know you mention that all of the other lights are working, but are the number plate lights working? These are easily and therefore often overlooked.

The electrics for the boot lid on the estate are all fed from the main loom via a rubber tube up near the hinges.

If the number plate lights and boot latch release mechanism are all working then power is likely to be getting into the boot lid.

As you say you really need a multimeter to check there is power to the brake light. I'm guessing not if both the old and brand new unit aren't working.

If you cant  get it fixed in time for the MOT dont worry as it is not a requirement and will still pass :) as long as the 2 side ones work you will be ok

I paid about AUD10 (GBP7) for my multimeter at a chain electronics store.  Has a thousand uses - make the investment :-)

What he said^^^

I have an led out in the high level break light and was told that as long as 50% of the light work it would pass! any less and it would be a fail.

oh right well unless the rules have changed in the last couple of years, if it doesn't work at all it shouldn't matter, im not sure for if only a few f the leds work, mayve just unplug the whole thing for the MOT haha
