MAF has packed it in

Recommended Posts

TPS for all genuine VAG parts. The last MAF I bought from them was about £80 exchange, but that was a couple of years ago.

Seen lots of stories around about fake Bosch stuff so personally I would steer clear of anything that hasn't come from a VAG dealer or TPS.

I just got mine from GSF parts in Brum.  Same situation, aftermarket one didn't work!!

Bought it online, received it the next day. Sent the old one back and received 30 pound surcharge refund!. 65 quid in total! Original bosch. Bargain!

It was a refurbished one (as a lot are now) but it had the original Bosch refurbished sticker on it (fully tested by Bosch) and a local Skoda specialist in Cannock use the same supplier and have fully tested them also. Could have got it from the skoda dealer but I don't believe I would have got the 30 pound refund.

TPS wouldn't sell me one. But GSF are genuine I believe.

Cheers, that's great info. The cost of a new MAF was breaking my heart!

My experience of buying a MAF from GFS a few years ago wasn't so good. Fitted it outside GFS & the car was undriveable! Had a bit of a fight to get my money back, but eventually they conceded so I went straight to Sinclair VW bought a genuine VAG/Bosch MAF which worked perfectly. Lesson learnt buy cheap, buy twice.

Strange. Was it an original Bosch or their cheaper one? They have 2 options.

Full price was 97 quid so almost same as TPS I believe. (ECP didn't have my specific make of Bosch - 0280 218 060)

Also the Skoda specialist swear by them and supply them also if you need a warranty from them.

Was this their cheaper MAF or their premium one (original Bosch for VAG/VW)?

They are making a tidy profit off that! They get that from TPS for about 90 quid I imagine.

a genuine one shouldn't cost more than 100 quid and you may get a surcharge refund when you send the old one back.

I think ECP for me on a Bosch one worked out after senging old one back as £72 at the time and to just get same one at another parts place was £81.99 delivered so to save spending more waiting on a refund and spending a good fiver posting it back plus the 15 mile round trip to post office, I just bought the one straight price.

Order a refurbed Bosch Maf (part no - 06A 906 461.) Maf arrived looked like new, of course to good to be true - wrong part!!! The part no. i require is 06A 906 461B.

So i searched high and low for a Bosch MAF w/ that elusive B. I don't think it exists.

Now I did happen upon a Hitachi MAF, part no. 06A 906 461B, great i thought -  then i read this http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5707395-Bosch-maf-to-Hitachi-maf basically if you change from a Bosch to Hitachi the ecu must be reprogrammed. Is this correct?

The Hitachi MAF has the VW logo so I'm hoping that it is an OEM part.

Ne thoughts?

Problem with vwvortex is its usa based

As for the B on your part number its usually just a newer part. Without the B will probably be fine.

Ok, I'll forget about the vwvotex recoding thread ;)

I thought the same about the 'B' at the end of the part number (based on previous purchases of OEM parts where the last letter didnt  make any difference to the part, maybe newer as you've just mentioned) but I have the two MAF's they are different

So, moral of the story when ordering a MAF, make sure the part no. is exact!

All new MAF sensors can be hit and miss.

We had a mk4 golf at work a few years ago, diagnosed as a faulty MAF, decided to go for genuine as we've had problems with cheap ones before. It didn't cure it. A couple of hours of more diagnostics, I couldn't find anything else wrong. So bit the bullet, took it to the dealer, told us the MAF was knackered. This is with the new one fitted still. They changed it over FOC and compensated for the time etc.

As far as i can see, the OEM of the MAF (06A 906 461B) for the Skoda Octavia Mk1 1.6 AKL is Hitachi, so I ordered a refurbished one earlier today.

The other day the car ran sweet - no sputtering, hesitation, missing etc, but once the engine was switched off and started again she ran like a pig. I cleaned the MAF thinking that it might help  - made it worse, so I disconnected the MAF - could not drive the car. So I reconnected the MAF but she is sputtering again!
