Hello Skoda world

Totally new to the Skoda vehicle, I am glad I got a chance to experience the new technology on this brand. The last impression I had with the brand was in the 1980s when I had witnessed the older Skodas on the road. I was not impressed and in fact, actually sneered at the looks of them.

I was recently looking to buy a new car and did a bit of research when I found the VW Golf quite well rated on the world scene. I went in to the showroom, tested a few cars and found them quite impressive, specs on paper and all.

Being one who is more inclined to be meticulous in what I do, I went back the next day to check out the vehicles more in depthly. It so happened that the dealership was also selling Skoda vehicles right next door, I wandered over to have nosy. More keen invetigation, test drives and 1 month after, I took delivery of a "Rio red" Octavia (Liftback) 1.4-litre TSI 103kw piece of workmanship.

That was only 3 weeks ago. I spent the first few days grooming the beauty and top coated with a hard-wearing clear coat. Since then, I had taken through its paces, up and down mountains, urban, rural roads and it has clocked just over 2,000kms so far. It has sustained a few stone chips on the windscreen, bonnet, front and side panels so far...[wished there was a more stone-chip-resisting coating around]. DEFINITELY 8.5 seconds or less for 0-100km/h. Haven't tried top speed of 212km/h though. Did not want to risk a speeding ticket and losing driver's license.

I am very pleased with this machine. Still impressed with the smallish 1.4-litre engine size that puts bigger cars on the road behind in its trails. I found overtaking with this machine (in sports mode) absolutely a joy and I really used it almost with a glee. So smooth to drive even around town, except that it seems to be so eager to race and go to its limits. Too bad we have strict speed limits in this country. I would enjoy driving it in Germany or some other places where one is legally permitted to drive at higher speeds (safely).

I realise this is quite a long-winded intro. So, stopping now and thank you for reading thus far.

Cheers from the Land of the Long White Cloud
