Mobil 1 engine oil, Is it worth it?

Featured Replies

Well tiz the time to do an oil change again. I have been looking at various types/brands, Mobil 1 ESP fully synthetic looks good(always been a fan of Mobil 1)... The Octy is on about 97,000 miles now so i was wanting to use quality oil as usual, Seen the Quantum stuff at the local skoda dealers but is the quality of Mobil 1 any more superior than other oils considering the vast price difference. So basically is it worth paying extra, Or not?

If I didn't get my oil free I'd use Mobil 1 ESP.

Isn't the VAG Quantum oil just Castrol in a different container?

I wouldn't skimp on engine oil but as a Skoda owner (a rebadged VW) I am concious of paying through the nose for a certain brand of product.

What would make Mobil 1 so much better than premium oil from another well respected brand?

No!

Just make sure that it's the right VW spec (eg 504.00 507.00 etc.)

Engines just seem to run better on it. They really do. Well mine do.

The Guzzi certainly does, smoother, quieter, cooler and more economical. Other engines seem to behave similarly for me. YMMV.

It is a true premium product. Made from the finest synthetic stock and top notch additive package. It comfortably exceeds the performance criteria, not just when new, but still above the minimum standard after a full service stint. Unlike some other so called premium oils which scrape by when new and not able to hold spec through the service interval.

A few of the American magazines were intrigued when it came out. Being the first widely available mass market synthetic. Their tests which were pretty rigourous and big budget by Brit standards, both in vehicle and in the lab, showed it lived up to Mobil's claims. Being first, it had to work. It is like Mercedes of old, a product designed by engineers to be the best they can make it, not the marketing dept to a price.

I started using it when it first came out years ago, after using even more expensive premium oils.

Doesn't even seem that expensive any more.

Yup, I'm a fan.

ps the bike's now done over 160,000 miles. Stripped once to have a look inside, only seals and gaskets changed.

Bloody good stuff and for 5L you get a bit left on a change for top ups,if needed. ECP currently have a 'summer30' code going and it takes Mobi1 ESP down to £40. I change my oil once a year so that's only about 80p a week. Would be even less if you were on variable interval servicing.

Nice one Hatchy, just ordered a 5 litre tub from ECP and a Crossland filter for a total of £45 once that code is entered.  Pick them up tomorrow.

Cheers

Perhaps the best oil for our motors.I've been using it on my car almost since day one.Excellent specs.Seriously reduces oil consumption.
