Rapid. 20v Turbo?

Featured Replies

What's peoples thoughts on putting 20v turbo engine and running gear in a spaceback. Obviously its still a newish model out so probably hasn't been done.

Not going to do it straight away but 1 day definitely. I use to love my Audi A3 Quattro.

I'm not sure you'd be able to get it passed an MOT due to emissions.

Exactly, I expect putting an old Euro III Engine into a Euro V car could be a little interesting.

Why not use the 1.8 TSi engine or the 1.4 TSi 160Hp? They are a lot more modern and Euro V. They also have a lot of tuning potential.

Or even easier get it with the standard 1.4 TSi with 120 Hp and then do a bigger turbo upgrade...

As above... far easier to try a more suited engine.

A 1.4 twin charged engine with stage 2 tuning would be very nice!

I can see your point but I love the older 1.8 20v lumps. If you get an S3 lump rather than a normal A3 one you have 225bhp before you even start playing with it.

They only do the black edition in 1.2 TSI format. I would have got the 1.4 if I could. :(

I plan on keeping this car for a long long time so plenty of time to mess once warranty runs out, I just want to do something different. I was in the process of buying 20v turbo lump for my wife's corsa but changed my mind and bought the Rapid in stead.

Can someone please explain Euro III and Euro V please.

Thanks

Wye not put the 1.8 TSI in the rapid now that would be sweet

Think about the weight too and how this might upset the chassis.

I used to have an Octy 20v Turbo, which was for sure faster outright that the Rapid 1.2TSI, but I somehow prefer the characterstics of the 1.2TSI, it's somewhat more pliable and punchy at low speeds especially.

Try chip-tuning this one first?

Essentially a set of targets cars have to meet in order to pass the MOT. The newer the car, the lower the levels permitted.

Old engine + new car = unlikely to pass

New engine + old car = flying colours

Thanks Dan. I can't see it passing emissions either looking at that chart. Back to the drawing board.

Ronnie its getting the dealership remap so it doesn't void my warranty. They say it will have about between 130 and 140 bhp which will be enough for now. I will look at the 1.8 TSI engine and the 2.0 FSI. Could go the other way and put a big diesel lump in lol.

Just don't want to do something that loads of other people might do.

Not heard of Skoda UK warranty backed remaps! I'd check the paper work on that one.

My mate is the salesman. I don't think he'd sell it me if it voided the warranty. It's £699 I think he said. If it voided the warranty I think my mate would just tell me to go to Revo. It would be a better map and cheaper.
