I guess this has been asked before but a quick search didnt seem to yield any results.

 

I have a 2008 Octavia Scout TDi (BMM) - TMBKE21Z********7

Bearing in mind this is for DIY use only, what software/interface do I need in order to run VCDS and use it on my car?

 

VCDS Lite?

 

Is there a 3rd party interface I could use

 

Hoping that some of you knowledgeable guys can point me in the right direction.

Really, the proper latest VCDS is what you need, especially going forward as it will continue to update for the rest of its term with you.

Micro-CAN from Ilexia or Gendan unless you intend to work on non-CANBUS controlled vehicles (generally pre-2004).

I'll think I'll bite the bullet and go for the VCDS (VAG-COM) HEX-USB+CAN Interface Package and commit myself to VWAG motors going forward.

Or parhaps, my next car could be a Bentley!

Am I to believe that this is exactly the same as the original Ross-Tech cable/dongle?

It is counterfeit hardware supplied with out-of-date VCDS software which may have been hacked to work with it - or vice versa. A genuine VCDS interface isn't supplied with VCDS software. You download the latest version of that software when you buy the interface and then diwnload each new version - including Beta versions - as they are released.

Thanks DGW - I'll stick with the original suggestion then.

At least that way I know I can recieve updates as and when they are released and have no compatiblility issues....
