Skoda Rapid from India...

Featured Replies

I subscribe to quite a few car manufactures regional areas on Twitter, this arrived today, a picture of a Skoda from India claiming to be a Rapid... I decided to check Skoda India...

The India version of the Rapid.......

Or is it a Fabia saloon?

Stuart

I thought that the Indian Rapid was a rehashed Jetta?

That definitely looks like a Fabia Saloon.

Weird!

Phil

A Fabia 'Sedan'.

& the Indian Websites and repeated in Australia have been speaking for months of the 'New Fabia' also being in available as a 'Sedan'.

It is a Badge engineered Polo Sedan......

Weird.

Also. It says it has a 1.6MPI engine. Is that just the old engine?

Kill it, kill it with fire!

Eurgh, what's the point of saloons and why do Americans/australians seem to like them so much? They're impractical and they're fugly.

A boot is quite handy, the contents are not in with the passengers separated only by a parcel self.

A better crumple zone, so possibly safer.

The back screen does not get filthy as it does on a Hatch Back / Space Back / Sport Back  (No more space at the back though, often no more Sport Either.)

The cleaner rear windscreen can be a rear advantage,

Hence why nearly all Saloon / Sedan do not require a rear wiper.

Because people like them. And its not just the yanks and aussies either we have plenty on our roads.

I just don't get the attraction personally. A hatch style thing like the octy/mondeo etc. makes more sense, but I just don't get why anyone would want the impracticality of a saloon. Ah well, I guess there's no accounting for taste. (and I'm well aware that mine probably isn't the height of good taste either)

It could be the new EA211 NA 1.6.. it's also fitted to the 'proper' Rapid for some markets in Europe.

Its only 105ps though.

Didnt they replace a similar output 1.6 with the 1.2TSI 105?

Whats a EA211 NA? Haha.

EA211 is the new engine architecture and NA is naturally aspirated (ie. no turbo)

The new 1.6 non-turbo is for eastern markets where lower emissions are less important and lower price is.

Having said that it seems the Indian Rapid has the old 105BHP 1.6 from the pre-facelift Roomster and Fabia 2:

and the Chinese one has the new one which has 110BHP:

Crap. I might have accidentally been right for a change.

This doesnt happen often... Today is a good day.

I've never owned a saloon only 3 dr or 5dr Hatchbacks and 5dr Estates (can you count the MK1 Fabia Combi as an estate)

It's just the latest version oif the Fabia Saloon.

We had the MkI version here in the UK.

Hardly suprising they no longer sell it here...

I really thought id posted in this thread earlier in the week!!

Still th occasional mk1 saloon fabia over here too,

its basically a less aesthetically pleasing Seat Cordoba.

I dont quite understand why its being badged as a rapid, but then again, they aint first company to re brand a vehicle in a different market -

Ford Mondeo in the states is a Fusion.... slightly different to the Fusion we got here a few a yrs back!

Agreed, and the Cordoba isnt exactly a looker!

Fusion, wasnt that a slightly higher version of the fiesta? Or something similar?

looked like a lada yugo had a fling with a fiesta yeah... A colleague had one on his bik for a while, he did like it, surprisingly stable given it looked like some home garage suv project gone wrong.. And, my last car was a cordoba, 2004, 1.2 petrol cost f*all to tax or insure.. Had a fat arse i admit, but not THE ugliest car ever :)
