I thought the op said the drive shaft was turning but wheel was not?

I think we're having an issue with a non-technical person trying to describe a technical problem, I took it to mean that when he turned the wheel by hand the driveshaft AND the wheel would suddenly stop turning when it went clunk.

Yes, Post 1 suggests one thing then post 16 something different.

Your right on both counts...My car knowledge is limited and when turning the wheel by hand it would make a noise by the end of the driveshaft by the wheel and the driveshaft would stop turning.

Wouldn't the effectively disconnected driveshaft just spin, as if the wheel was off the ground and so no drive to the other side because of the action of the diff.  Even with EDL (pretend diff lock) it would help as the wheel doesn't move.

What happens if you run it with both front wheels off the ground?

Alternatively with both front wheels off the ground what happens if you rotate the OK wheel?

1. I did run it with both wheels in the air and they both went, using the accelerator.

2. Same thing,if I turn the ok wheel manually the driveshaft on the other side turned every time. Then the noise and the wheel stopped, driveshaft continued to rotate.

Sorry I'm a bit confused.  With 2 do you mean both driveshafts rotate but only one wheel?

I think I've confused myself...sorry folks.I'm going to replace the parts for new and see what happens.Posting pics or vids if need be this time to give everyone a better idea.

Thank you everyone for your help so far and I'll post how I get on.

Cheers.
